When taking a trip, there are some valuables that you have to bring with you, like your personal documentation and credit cards. However, there are also valuables that you might just want to bring with you, like your vintage Chanel earrings or your favorite camera for documenting your journey. Regardless of what valuables you have on you while traveling, you’re going to want to do everything you can to keep those items safe while on your trip.
To help you in doing this, here are three tips for protecting your valuables when traveling.
Don’t Use Outer Pockets
If you’re not used to being in an area where you need to be worried about your valuables being taken from you, you may not know how to best protect yourself and your possessions when you’re out and about during your travels. Some of the things that you do on a daily basis may not be the best idea when you’re trying to keep your belongings safe.
For example, while you may normally keep your wallet or other valuables in the pockets of your backpack or purse, this isn’t the best idea when you’re traveling. But when you’re traveling, you should try not to put anything valuable in any outer pocket, as these pockets can more easily be opened by people looking to steal from you.
Keep Your Stuff Separate
Whether you’re carrying your valuable items on your person or keeping them back where you’re staying, it’s wise not to keep everything valuable all together. If someone were to figure out where you’re keeping your valuable items or were to just take one thing off of you that had all of your valuables in it, they’d then have everything of yours.
Instead, make sure you keep your valuable items separate from each other. Keep some things in your purse, some in your backpack, some in a pocket, some in your suitcase, and some hidden elsewhere. This will make it hard for someone to rip you off completely, if that is their goal.
Use Your Hotel Safe
If you can help it, it’s best to keep your valuables under lock and key when possible. So if you don’t have to carry something with you when you’re out and about while traveling, try to leave it back where you’re staying for the night.
To have even greater protection for your valuables, you should consider using the hotel safe, if one is available to you. This way, you can lock everything up and not have to worry if someone gains entry to your room somehow, as your most valuable items are locked away anyway.
If you want to best protect your valuables when you’re traveling, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you in doing this.
