Absolutely OZ – Baz Luhrmann Teams Up With ABSOLUT

Absolut Oz

To celebrate everything Australia, ABSOLUT have partnered with the native film director Baz Luhrmann who they have invited to design the first ever bottle for the country. It’s the perfect fit as Luhrmann is famed for his brilliant films notably his great 2008 release of “Australia” starring two of Australia’s great actors, Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman.

On speaking on the collaboration Julien Hemard, managing director at Pernod Ricard Australia had this to say,

“We are extremely pleased and proud to be collaborating with one of the great visionary minds of the contemporary world in Baz to realise the first Australian ABSOLUT limited edition. Baz is one of the world’s renowned inspirations in creativity. Working with ABSOLUT, Baz has captured the unique essence of Australia.”

ABSOLUT OZ is the first and will be joining a list of iconic global destinations such as ABSOLUT London, ABSOLUT Brooklyn (NYC), ABSOLUT Mexico and ABSOLUT SF (San Francisco) who have been approached to create their own limited edition bottle.

Luhrmann had been working in Sweden in the ABSOLUT distillery where he was capturing he flavours that would capture the true essence of Australia with various ingredients. In his experiments of floavour, Baz was playing with the idea that the taste palette as well as our smell sense has the power to place of the known and imagined.

He started this project while he was in the filming of his recent hit “Gatsby” which, whilst set in the 20’s during the prohibition saw many drinking. This inspired Luhrmnann to keep focus on what cocktails could be created using the new ABSOLUT OZ which also takes influences from the Australian beach lifestyle. He has named his cocktails after four famous beaches in Australia, which are The Tama-Glama, The Hells Bells Beach, The Cable Beach ‘Stairway to the Moon’ and The South Avoca Elevator.

However, you’ll have to get you hands on them while you can due to the bottle only being released for a strict limited period of time. But, at $54.99 for a 1 litre bottle (one size only) you can’t complain
