From amazing acts to monumental developments, we take a look back at some the best moments of Australia’s electronic music festival, Stereosonic.
He hadn’t been seen at an Australian festival since the summer of 2003/4, but Tiesto’s Kaleidoscope tour earlier in 2010 was so epic that he returned in November for Stereosonic. The big man was having just about as much fun as the crowd, playing the likes of Steve Angello, Pendulum, Afrojack, and his own releases. Don’t miss his return to Stereosonic this year.
Getting down to their kecks and showering the stage in champagne, LMFAO were as brilliant on stage as expected back in 2011. Even Leonardo DiCaprio was spotted by the side of the stage checking them out, but we can neither confirm or deny whether he stripped off during ‘Sexy And I Know It.’
In 2012, LA’s HARD headed to Stereosonic for the first time. Destructo brought with him Diplo, Dillon Francis, Zedd and many more to shake up the crowd and smash the day. HARD and Destructo will return this year with Diplo, Disclosure, Duke Dumont, Oliver Heldens, Wilkinson, RL Grime and Nina Las Vegas.
An awesome surprise at Stereosonic in 2012 was Major Lazer, led by LA’s Diplo, which brought electronic reggae to the pumped-up crowd. Complete with giant inflatable hamster balls, silly string and upside down twerking, even Diplo whipped his shirt off and everyone went a little bit wild.
One Day Became Two
In 2013, the decision was made to turn Stereosonic into a two-day festival, meaning twice the acts, twice the music and twice the fun. Ticket-holders were treated to headline acts, David Guetta, Calvin Harris and Armin Van Buuren, for this milestone.
With such a huge career already, the news we’d all been waiting for had arrived – David Guetta was to play Stereosonic for the first time in 2013. As a headline act, the big man did not disappoint, with an epic light show and the biggest smile across his face as he played hits like ‘Love Don’t Let Me Go’ and Bruno Mars’ ‘Locked Out Of Heaven’ while the crowd sang along.
What have been your favourites moments of Stereosonic through the years? Who are you most looking forward to checking out this year when it returns in November? And most importantly, have you got your ticket?
