Best Sporting Events to Watch in Canada in Winter

2020 brought the world to its knees. Economies are almost at a standstill, movie productions are cautious with filming, and the sports industry is also severely impacted. Canada is not exempted. For people who love sports, this is a blow, especially for those who rely on sporting events for entertainment.

However, there is a light at the end. There are still sporting events that you can watch in Canada in the winter of 2020-2021, and that is what we are going to share with you today.

Curling: 2020 Scotties Tournaments of Hearts

This tournament takes place at Fort William Gardens, Thunder Bay, in Ontario. In early March of 2020, the facility was closed because of the pandemic. By winter, the facility is now selling tickets.

Here are the ticket prices:

  • Championship Weekend Package – costs $219; this ticket gives you six single tickets to the final 6 draws, including a tiebreaker.
  • Full Event Package – costs $395; this one gives you single tickets to 22 draws, plus the tiebreakers.
  • Premium Full – costs $429; as of the time of this writing, this ticket has been sold out.

The box for the facility is closed to the public. What this means is that you cannot buy tickets as a walk-in customer. You can only buy the ticket from the online facility. This event will be happening between Feb 20 to 28, 2021, just before the official end of winter.

Take note that you have to call the ticket provider before going to the facility on the day of the event. No one knows if the event will be postponed or cancelled because of the pandemic.

Ice Hockey: 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship

One of the most anticipated events in the country, this will commence as scheduled. However, no fans will be in attendance. The event will be happening at Rogers Place in Edmonton between December 2020 and January 2021.

After this, the plan is to host the 2022 championship in Red Deer, Alberta. At that time, it is likely that the fans will now be allowed to attend the event.

As for the 2021 World Juniors, there are people who already bought tickets. They cannot use these tickets in the 2021 championship, but they can use it for the 2022 World Juniors with no need to pay anything extra. If you have already bought yours, you can get a refund, but only if you received an email from the organization.

Ten countries are going to participate in this event. Even if you cannot use your ticket, you can still watch the game on a live telecast on your television.

So far, these are the only sports events happening in Canada right now. While there are many that are scheduled, they are set to be re-scheduled sometime next year. Most of the events will happen sometime in August 2021, long after the winter is gone.

Are There Alternatives?

Yes, if you really like gaming, you can visit online casinos in Canada and play games like the Animal Quest slot. Online casinos have tournaments, and players do not have to leave their houses to play. One great thing about online casinos is that you are not limited to play slots online only. There are also many table games that you can check out or you can even bet on sports like ice hockey, football, tennis and many more online.

Despite that, there are many restrictions in land-based entertainment centers. It is still better to wait it out and make sure that the world has the right vaccine to combat the disease. Online casinos and bookmakers offer sporting events, too. However, these are also all based on real-time sporting schedules in Canada.

One alternative is to look for a betting site that offers virtual sports. Virtual sports are computerized games where teams fight—the games are simulated; they are not played by real human beings. The good thing about online virtual sports is that you do not have to buy tickets. All you have to do is to watch the events unfold before your eyes and place your bets. Should you ever get tired of it, you have the option to shift to slot machines or table games.

The COVID-19 pandemic may have impacted the world in negative ways, but this will not stop sports aficionados from finding a means to continue sports entertainment. While several vaccines are on the way, the end of the pandemic is still far from over. Take your pick from our list and watch the game online!
