COMMANDEUR TEAMS UP WITH PNAU COLLABORATOR OLLIE GABRIEL FOR NEW TRACK ‘ME AND YOU’
STREAM/DOWNLOAD FROM AUGUST 7TH: risque.lnk.to/MeAndYou
Commandeur is back, and this time he has brought on Ollie Gabriel – who recently featured on PNAU’s track ‘All Of Us’ – for his new single ‘Me and You’, out August 7th via Risqué. Commandeur’s heightened sense for driving rhythms combined with Ollie Gabriel’s soulful vocals is an undeniable match made in dance heaven from the Sydney producer, songwriter and famed drummer who has also shared a stage with Ollie for PNAU’s electrifying live shows.
Commandeur describes how the song came about: “Back in January, after an exhilarating Falls Festival run with PNAU, Ollie and I were winding down in Sydney and were keen to jump in the studio together. He came around to my house where we drank tea and chatted through our lives and what 2020 was to hold for us. Excited and optimistic for the year ahead, we talked about the amazing support network that our partners provide and how important it is to support and lift each other up in every aspect of your lives. It was that conversation that set the tone for ‘Me and You’. A Russian Caravan later, we were in the studio playing around on different instruments. I had a drum beat I’d previously recorded looping and Ollie was on the Waldorf Blofeld and suddenly came out with the keys riff and we instantly lit up and it quickly snowballed in to the song it is now, only taking a couple hours to lock down the main concept of the track, and from there the lyrics and the song just fell into place!”
Louisiana-born vocalist Ollie Gabriel adds, “I was impressed with Tim’s musicality as a drummer and vibe as a person; we had a blast together on tour with Pnau. When he told me he was working on a project, I was very curious about the sound of it, since I was a fan of hearing him play drums already. When we met at his house, we got into talking about our goals, and family and relationships. At the time, I was away from my wife in LA, and it had been a rough year for us because I was travelling so much. She still supported me through everything though. When Tim played the drum beat, I sat at the keys and the groove was born in a few minutes. It felt young, free, and hopeful for love. The song just flowed out and my hope is that it inspires people to stick together and grow with each other…don’t give up. Sometimes the hard times make the good times that much sweeter when you stay together.”
