The 11-day, 10-night journey will begin on a Monday in Delhi, where you will receive a full-day tour of both the old and new cities, visiting the 300-year-old Chandni Chowk market, Friday Mosque, the Red Fort, India Gate, Parliament and the Presidential Palace.
You’ll then drive to Mandawa and explore the region’s renowned Havelies, fort palaces and fresco art. Leaving for Jaipur, you’ll make an excursion to the Amber Fort. Amber’s favourite attraction is the caparisoned Elephant Ride up to the fort entrance, an unforgettable experience and taste of the extravagant lifestyle of the old Maharajas. The interior walls of the palace depict miniature hunting and war scenes. There you’ll discover the Hall of Victory and then the Palace of the Winds.
The tour will take you to Fatehpur Sikri, or the ‘Ghost City,’ the ancient beautiful city of Akbar which was slowly ruined and deserted after he left. Then onwards to Agra, where you’ll see the sun rise over the world-famous Taj Mahal and the beautiful Mughal tombs.
On overnight train will take you to the holy city of Varanasi, were you are invited to the powerfully spiritual Ganga Aarti purification ceremony on the river Ganges. Next up is a soul-lifting boat ride on the Ganges at sunrise, witnessing the Ghats light up and devotees begin their days with religious rituals and ablutions in the river.
Later on you’ll visit Sarnath, where the Buddha preached his first sermon after his enlightenment and see the delicate floral carvings and rich collection of Buddhist sculptures at the Archaelogical Museum, followed by an exploration of the Vishwanath (or Golden) Temple, Varanasi’s central world-class university and a rickshaw ride in the city. Another overnight train to Delhi will transfer you to your hotel before the flight home the following day.
The tour has a number of remaining start dates this year: 17th August, 7th September and 21st September, 5th October, 19th October, 2nd November, 16th November and 7th December.
Confirmed dates in 2016 are as follows: 4th January, 18th January, 1st February, 15th February, 7th March and 21st March.
Prices start at $899 per person on twin sharing using an air-conditioned medium-sized car and include all travel transfers, sightseeing excursions as per program using the vehicle, local guides, entry fees and some meals.
