From Sydney To The Gold Coast

The route from Sydney to the Gold Coast is one many travellers should embark on for its enriching experiences with Australia’s animals and activities in amazing locations. Travelling up the New South Wales coast, stop in Port Stephens, Diamond Head and Byron Bay for a true Aussie adventure.

Port Stephens is an area of natural beauty, with 19 miles of sandy beaches awaiting your footprints, including the coastal resort of Nelson Bay, Port Stephens’ largest town. A mix of tourism and charm, the recreational opportunities are aplenty, including diving, snorkelling and spotting marine life off of Fly Point and Broughton Island. Why not take to the waters of Port Stephens on a cruise of Nelson Bay, jump into the water and swim with the playful dolphins that come up to meet you? In such an ideal location, this is the perfect place to introduce yourself to the wonders of aquatic Australia.

Further north lies Diamond Head, a camping area and coastal spot within Crowdy Bay National Park. In this serene location, don’t be surprised if you find a family of kangaroos playing on the beach and even swimming beside you on a surfing or paddle-boarding lesson. The stretch of beach is dotted with rock pools and hidden lagoons with luxuriously warm water for a secluded escape, and Indian Beach is just a short circular walk with views of the coast, mountains and forest.

One of the most famous holiday destinations in Australia, Byron Bay is a tourist attraction in its finest form. To cater for the abundance of travellers, there’s a wide range of accommodation and eateries to sleep and refuel. Superbly laidback, the hipster lifestyle may not be as it once was, but the art and culture of Byron still thrives, with evidence in the galleries and on the streets you wander. Located on the edge of the ocean, water-based activities include surfing, snorkelling, kayaking and whale watching. Three km north of the town sits Cape Byron Lighthouse, resting on the most eastern point of the mainland and still in use today.
