  • Project: Apartment Refurbishment
  • Architect: Stanic Harding Pty Ltd
  • Style: Modern
  • Floor Area: 175sqm
  • Construction Awards: 2008 Master Builders Association NSW Award for ‘Home Unit Renovation – Open Category’, 2007 Housing Industry Association NSW Award for ‘Renovation Project of The Year’

Refurbishment of this circular Darling Point apartment required the complete internal reconstruction and fit-out to a sophisticated architectural design. The new layout is designed to maximise space and functionality. Extensive use of mirrors, joinery and cavity sliders create a sleek, understated means of creating storage whilst simultaneously defining the apartment’s layout and creating a sense of infinite space. Textured finishes are used throughout the apartment to add depth to an otherwise minimalist design. Heated limestone and Calcutta marble flooring feature through the kitchen and wet areas whilst the bedrooms, study and living areas are overlaid with specially imported Belgian shaggy pile carpet. Upholstered joinery panels are used to line the internal core walls and patches of stucco and graphite textured joinery add further elements of intrigue. http://www.alvarobros.com.au/projects_bronte.html Bronte

  • Architect: Luigi Rosselli Architects
  • Style: Beachside Modern
  • Floor Area: 460sqm
  • Structure: Brick, Concrete, Steel & Timber
  • Construction Awards: Master Builders Association Award for Contract Houses, 2004

Set over three levels, this Bronte residence combines a Mediterranean influence with the contemporary minimalist genre to create a modern elegant home. A continuous modern design theme is centered on relaxed living. The house relies on natural materials to add character and warmth to its façade and interior environment. Recycled wide board Blackbutt timber flooring features throughout the living areas whilst sandstone cladding, render and cedar slats combine to decorate the building’s façade. The internal living areas maintain an open plan layout encompassing the kitchen, dinning and family areas. Using bi-fold doors, the internal areas merge with the outdoor entertaining deck in an extension of the open plan design. This fluid style is further complemented by a series of curves and protruding angles to add character and intrigue to the internal and external shape of the residence. “Domenic was a pleasure to work with. Not only did he keep our neighbours content during the building process, one even wanted him to do their renovations”.

Bilgola

  • Architect: David Haertsch Architects
  • Style: Contemporary Courtyard
  • Floor Area: 465sqm
  • Structure: Brick & Concrete
  • Architectural Awards: Commendation by the Royal Insititute of Architects, 2004
  • Construction Awards: Master Builders Association Merit Award for Contract Houses, 2003

Exclusively positioned on a cliff top, this Bilgola residence enjoys captivating views of the Australian coastline.

The structure was designed and constructed with consideration to the elements of the surrounding environment. Externally, the house is made as a constructed landscape such that it will settle into its environment as the structure weathers over time. The layering of materials represents a transformation of the natural elements of the site-stone, brick and concrete.

The primary experience of this house is the interior to which the exterior is subverted. Maintaining a natural theme, polished timber flooring features throughout the living areas of the residence and is complimented by render and set plaster walls, waxed finished in neutral tones. Expansive glass panels are also used to take advantage of the spectacular view.

“Alvaro Bros Builders were the perfect contractors with all the skill and focus necessary to complete this demanding project. The expertise that they brought to the project surpassed all expectations of both the client and the architect. The result is a building of enduring quality”.
