You may not know the name but Tim Kopra has just smashed the world record for the longest pass in American football history – clocking up a groin-bustingly long throw of 500km. To put that into context, it’s the equivalent of throwing a ball from Sydney to Coffs Harbour.
Admittedly, Kopra cheated a bit. For starters he did it in zero gravity while orbiting the Earth in a space station – and the actual distance of his somewhat gentle throw was just how far it travelled from the perspective of someone watching from Earth. Also Kopra was, himself, technically travelling at 28,000 kilometres per hour at the time.
It’s thought to be the biggest throw since the Pakistan cricket team lost the Boxing Day Test to Australia last year.
