Rock and roll relaunch at the Lewisham hotel, Sydney

The Lewisham Hotel is re-launching as a live music venue in early April. Flying in the face of negative press about Sydney’s live music scene, The Lewisham hotel joins the list of businesses now hosting live music. Returning to its musical past, the Lewisham hotel was flagship venue in the Sydney live rock scene in the eighties and also played host local indie and metal bands in the naughties when it became known as “The Sydney Live House”.

“It feels like the inner west is going through a renaissance at the moment as far as live venues go”, says Lewisham Hotel licensee Benjamin Christie. “We’ve had a long history as a music venue and we want to bring that back, it certainly feels like the right time”.

To mark the re-launch of this iconic music venue, the venue will be hosting “the Rock and Roll Re-launch Party” on Saturday 5th April. The night will feature Sydney rock stalwarts Front End Loader, a rare appearance by blues and roots trio Chase The Sun, along with new kids on the scene, hard rockers The Lazys and local Australiana/blue-grass exponents The Morrisons.

“The line up for the show is a mixed bag for sure”, says Christie, “we’ve always been a pub for locals, and the locals around here want to hear live music of all kinds, rock, reggae, blues and everything in between. Great bands playing great music basically, that’s what we love hearing as well, so our launch is representative of that”.
