We caught up with Adam White, Property Manager of the popular British pub in Adelaide’s East End to get his recommendations on the must try beers.

Young Henrys Newtowner

Young Henrys wouldn’t be what it is without Newtown. It’s our home, community and inspiration. So when the suburb celebrated its sesquicentenary and we were invited to brew a unique beer to celebrate, we jumped at the chance. The resulting beer was an Aussie Pale Ale called Newtowner. In a bit of a nod to the suburb’s past and present influences, we used a blend of English and Australian malts. Then we added three varieties of local hops to make it fun, fruity and even a little bitter – just like Newtown. This is a beer we wanted everyone in our community to enjoy, whether it was being thrown back at a gig or sipped slowly in a beer garden. The people responded and Newtowner is now a permanent part of our beer range.  Also $11 a jug at the Elephant British Pub

Fullers London Pride

Known and loved for its distinctive, rounded flavour, London Pride is the award-winning beer for which Fuller’s is most famous. In recent years its popularity has grown to the extent that it is now Britain’s leading premium ale. It also calls the Elephant British Pub in home in South Australia

Pirate Life Port Local Lager

The Port Admiral Hotel is Port Adelaide’s oldest remaining building, dating back to 1849. Nearly 120 years after first opening its doors, and following a million dollar resurrection, the hotel has started pouring its first beers in more than a decade. The Port Admiral opened the doors on its latest incarnation on November 8, 2017, under the stewardship of a group of owners who come from a variety of backgrounds but all have one thing in common: knowledge of good booze. So, they enlisted another group of locals known for producing good booze to create their house lager.

The beer from Pirate Life, who plan to be near neighbours when their second brewery in Port Adelaide is up and running, is Port Local, a super clear and bright yellow lager with a tight, fluffy white head that leaves pretty lacing all down the glass. It’s kept simple and clean, combining the sweetness of the Vienna and Pilsner malt with herbaceous, earthy and spicy flavours from the Spalt and Perle hops, finishing super dry and encouraging the drinker to return for more of its thirst quenching goodness.

Taste these awesome beers and more at The Elephant, British Pub in Adelaide.
