We caught up with Sonus Festival aftermovie Director Thomas Pizzinga to discuss how the festival has developed, some of the best Croatia must visit travel destinations, his favourite things to do around Pag Island and of course why he loves the festival. He’s also got some pretty amazing photos and memories to share. Here’s what he has to say about Croatia’s no.1 underground house and techno festival.
SONUS from the behind the scenes…
What’s your name and what do you for Sonus?
Hi guys, I’m Thomas Pizzinga and I’m the director of the SONUS aftermovie since 2015.
How many years have you been visiting Croatia?
I have been in Croatia many times since 2013, I explored lots of different beaches and cities.
You have had the chance to return to Sonus and Croatia as the festival grown over the years, is there a destination or activity that you consistently return to year on year?
I love to explore Pag Island, I had the opportunity to drive around from north to south and east to west to film new landscapes and activities. So yes, I’d say my favourite activity is exploring the island with a van, with a scooter or with a quad.
Do you have a favourite beach?
Of course, but it’s a secret beach we discovered last year during our location scouting. I could bring you there if you come to SONUS. ehehe
What’s your favourite restaurant and where is it?
Unfortunately, we have a tight working schedule and we can’t drive around to try different restaurant but we had dinner in a fish restaurant in Simuni and it was really good.
We imagine that you get access to some pretty amazing artists and shows at Sonus. What are your top 3 stand out DJ or Live sets that you’ve seen since you started working with the festival?
Choose just 3 dj/live sets in a selection of about 60 artists is not so easy but I’m a big fan of Sven Vath and his set in 2015 at Aquarius was absolutely amazing, I really enjoyed the Martinez Brothers boat party and the Solomun closing set in 2017.
What are your top 3 most instagramable destinations or activities in Croatia?
One of the most instagramable activity is sailing on a boat around the festival beach while you’re dancing with your friends, then take a picture with your girlfriend on top of Pag Island View and of course Dance till the dawn in Kalypso club, waiting the sun coming up in the middle of the trees.
What’s your favourite Sonus moment that you’ve ever taken and why is it your favourite?
Filming a festival like SONUS gave me lots of new friends and unforgettable moments. One of my favourite moments that I filmed there it’s the Carl Cox set of 2017, he was playing the sunset set at Aquarius, that day the sky was incredibly orange and red, the club was sold out, there was an incredible atmosphere all around and i really enjoyed filming those moments.
Why should people add Sonus to their world festival bucket lists?
The right question it’d be, Why people didn’t buy the SONUS ticket yet?
Sonus is special because PAG island is so beautiful, you can drive around with your friends and discover a new wild beach every day, you can rent a sailboat and looking for dolphins around the island. There are many activities around Zrech Beach, you can rent a quad and looking for some fun off-road. There are also lots of beautiful villa with pool to rent or if you prefer to go wilder there are some nice camping. Do you like to dive? Pag is famous for snorkelling and diving too 🙂
Did I convince you yet?
What’s your instragram handle? Where can we find you online?
Thanks so much Thomas, we look forward to seeing at Sonus 2018.
