The Fat Duck Relocating To Australia

Heston Blumenthal Relocates The Fat Duck

Award-winning celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal has announced that he will fly his Fat Duck all the way to Australia. The Michelin-star UK restaurant will be temporarily located in Melbourne for approximately six months, making this Blumenthal’s first international expansion.

The new restaurant is reportedly 2 years in the making and will take another year to complete. With a scheduled opening in 2015, The Fat Duck will seat 45 people and recruit 70 members of staff to help run the restaurant and achieve the same success it has gained in the UK. The Fat Duck, which has spent nine years on the “World’s 50 Best Restaurant’s” list, will be located in Crown Towers before being renamed “Dinner by Heston Blumenthal”.

Speaking at a press conference Blumenthal said: “This is not a pop-up restaurant. We are going to pick up The Fat Duck, the whole team, and fly them over there. We’re even going to pick up some of the bits of the restaurant – maybe the sign, maybe bits of the leather from the chairs – and incorporate it into the dining space.”

After the six month period The Fat Duck will become another one of Blumenthal’s restaurants ‘Dinner’ once The Fat Duck team return to the UK.

The new Melbourne restaurant will make this Heston’s sixth in total. It is scheduled to open in February of 2015.
