You may be stuck in the city this summer but there are plenty of places in Melbourne that offer a little escapism. Across the city you’ll find a number of Tiki themed bars where you can be transported to a Polynesian Paradise. With palm trees, carved tiki mugs, and fruity cocktails you can leave your stress at the door and for a short while imagine you are somewhere else entirely. Visit a Tiki bar this summer and enjoy surroundings that embody Polynesian mythology through decorative artefacts. This is the perfect getaway but with very little travel involved.

The Butterfly Club
The Butterfly Club really is a tropical paradise. Decorated with antique furniture, statuesque trees, fairy lights and of course butterflies, this will be unlike any place you have ever been before. But The Butterfly Club isn’t just about appearances; they have a superb cocktail list to back it up. BBM recommend Sparkling Sunset or Urban Legend, although all of their offerings are delicious.

SweatShop is a hidden den boasting out of this world Mai Tai’s below Seamstress Restaurant. Housed in a 115-year-old former textile factory, this is an unexpected location for one of Melbourne’s best bars. Open Fridays and Saturdays, SweatShop isn’t decked out in extravagant Tiki furnishings like many others on this list, but it has a great vibe.
