Day trip from Perth to York via Mundaring
A Day trip from Perth to York driving through the Great Eastern Highway and only 34 km east of Perth City, you’ll find the region of Mundaring. The tree-lined village of Mundaring is one of the major towns of the Perth Hills and makes a wonderful day trip to the region. Just out of town you will find the vast water reserve of the Mundaring Weir and you can also picnic at any number of stunning parks in the area.

The MundaBiddi Trail starts here, and the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail stretches throughout through Mundaring. There are pubs, cafes, and galleries, five national parks, the amazing engineering feat that is Mundaring Weir, the Lake Leschenaultia, Wildflowers and wildlife abound.

Railway Reserves Heritage Trail
The growth of railway heritage trails where old railway routes are converted into cycle and pedestrian trails. In the case of the Perth Hills, the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail retraces 59 kilometers of the old Eastern Railway. Railway Reserves Heritage Trail can be joined at Mundaring Station Platform and if you decide to head east you can walk to Sawyers Valley and head to St Helena or Chidlow.
Mundaring Weir
The Mundaring Weir is a dam located 39 km from Perth. It is built situated in the scenic Darling Scarp Ranges that extend from Bindoon to the south of Pemberton and is built on the Helena River to store water that is pumped out to the Goldfields and other regional outback areas of Western Australia.
Perth Hills Discovery Centre
Located at 380 Allen Road – it is off Mundaring Weir Road, the Perth Hills Discovery Centre is operated by the Department of Environment and Conservation and situated within Beelu National Park. It is a good starting point for a number of interesting bush trails including the famous Bibbulmun Track, the short Catchment Carers Trail and the MundaBiddi Trail.
