Meeting the Dolphins of Monkey Mia

Perth to Broome Tours Visit Monkey Mia

You may not be best located to meet reindeer this Christmas, however in Western Australia you are perfectly located to meet dolphins! Monkey Mia is a tropical paradise perfect for any animal lover and is one of the best places in the world to get up close with bottlenose dolphins,. Visit from Perth 800km away and spend the day falling in love with the majestic creatures.

Wild Dolphins of Monkey Mia

Wild dolphins have been coming to the Monkey Mia shore for over 50 years after a fisherman began feeding the creatures after returning with his catch – news of this soon caught on and people were visiting from far and wide to witness the dolphins themselves. Begin your day trip to Monkey Mia by learning all about the fascinating history of the local beach dolphins at the Dolphin Interpretive Centre through fun interactive displays and free activities.

Interactions with Dolphins

Now it’s time to interact with the dolphins. Take part in a dolphin experience and watch the dolphins being fed by experienced officers. Unfortunately, visiting times are on their terms – while they are only offered fish during their first three visits between 7:45 am and 12 noon, they often visit the beach outside these times, but it is hard to predict when. Although rare, there are days when the dolphins do not visit the beach. Make sure to arrive early in the day as dolphin experiences may finish well before noon.

Francois Peron National Park

Spend the afternoon taking a trip to the Francois Peron National Park. Take a four-wheel-drive around the park and admire the contrast between the azure oceans and striking red dunes that make up this stunning landscape. Relax and unwind after a hard day of watching dolphins with a fishing session in the idyllic turquoise waters – perfect!

Peron Walk Trail and Aboriginal Culture

Finish off the amazing day with an Aboriginal night time adventure on the Peron Walk Trail. Get fully immersed in the aboriginal culture and discover the way the local Malagna people lived, including secrets of bush survival, bush tucker and bush medicine. Alternatively, have your mind blown vastness of the dazzling night sky while learning about the lifecycle of stars with a beach astronomy tour.
