Things to Do in Joondalup

Stunning beaches, wildlife encounters and ample amenities, make Joondalup, a city worth exploring. Here is a list of top attractions in the city.

Visit the Yellagonga Regional Park

Often referred to as the Kings Park of the north, Yellagonga Regional Park is best discovered from the Neil Hawkins Park, located within the close proximity of the Joondalup City Centre.  Yellagonga Regional Park is dominantly a wetland system, where water birds, long-necked turtles and frogs thrive. You can walk through the bush land that surrounds the Lake Joondalup to drink in the park’s natural beauty. The park’s walking and cycling paths loop through its length and breadth, offering you with expansive glimpses over the lake. The park is also home to some historically significant sites.

Visit the Hillarys Boat Harbour

Hillarys Boat Harbour provides plenty of day and night life fun, from a sheltered beach, the Aquarium of WA (with claims to Australia’s largest aquarium) to water sports, shopping and fine dining. You can go on boat cruises, Jet Ski, go on a helicopter ride, dive, and jet board or even go deep sea fishing. You’ll also find plenty of cocktail bars, shops and ritzy restaurants to enjoy some well-earned rest and relaxation.

Hillarys is also a pretty good gateway to Rottnest Island. You could catch a ferry from Hillarys, head towards ‘Rotto’, have a bite to eat, take in the sunset at the beach and return back to the mainland on the same day.

Go Snorkeling at the Marmion Marine Park

A veritable diver’s haven, the Marmion Marine Park is home to a vibrant array of marine creatures. The lagoon’s shallow waters are scattered with ledges, caves and swim-throughs, where sea creatures roam freely. Keen divers can go to Boyinaboat Reef, located just 75 meters from Hillarys Boat Harbour or snorkel closer to the shore in Mettams Pool. If you are into scuba diving, take a boat and your gear to dive deep into the submerged reefs of Wreck Rock, Wanneroo Reef or North Lump. Kite and windsurfing as well as boating are other popular activities at the Marine Park.

Scarborough Sunset Markets

The Scarborough Sunset Markets kick off every Thursday night at the Scarborough Beach. The market promises a glorious time near the crystal blue sea, complete with mesmerizing sunsets, live music, pop-up stores and plenty to eat and drink. They usually begin celebrations from 5pm, beckoning you to unplug, unwind and have a fabulous time.
