For one week in summer, the glorious Peak District countryside that surrounds the quaint spa town of Buxton reverberates to the sound of Y Not Festival. What began from the excess of a house party between mates now boasts a capacity of 25,000 and eleven stages over four days. The locals must be used to it by now, the festival is now in its twelfth year and continues to grow.
This year the headliners are a best of British line-up including Feeder, The Vaccines, Stereophonics and Two Door Cinema Club. In fact, the festival looks to showcase a veritable smorgasbord of talent from these fair islands. From Happy Mondays on their greatest hits tour to Declan McKenna whose debut album is released only a few days before his appearance. Nostalgia also comes in the form of 90s veterans Cast and 00s stalwarts Maximo Park.
The festival will also boast a couple of television stars. One will be Kate Nash, fresh from her starring role in the Netflix series GLOW, with her ‘Made of Bricks’ 10 year anniversary tour. Another is breakfast television legend Mr Motivator, who will make his now trademark appearance first thing on Saturday morning to limber up the crowd.
Also keeping up with tradition is the paint fight, an end of weekend hurrah and an excuse to throw paint in the face of an absolute stranger. If you fancied a recess there is also Nighthawk Cinema which is dotted with bean bags and a sterling collection of films to escape in. How idyllic, for a raucous weekend in the Derbyshire countryside.
