Whilst this may seem like a regular event, it’s not… I’m speaking with Pierre-Alexandre Busson – a French producer, remixer and DJ extraordinaire. Otherwise known as Yuksek, he has revitalised tracks from artists such as Aeroplane, Chromeo, Peaches and Phoenix, just to name a few!
As I hear the all-too-familiar blasting of a horn echoing through a tunnel, Pierre mentions that he’s on a train, so without further ado, we delve into conversation about all things Field Day 2011 – where he’ll be delighting Sydneysiders with an electrifying DJ set.
I establish that this is Pierre’s first time playing at Field Day. Reflecting on his most interesting festival experience so far, he tells me about Splendour in the Grass 2009: “It was crazy. I played just before sunset, and all the people were really mad! I’d just arrived in Australia and I was really jetlagged, but it was totally hectic, very special.” He also points out that these indie and house-infused festivals appeal to him much more than the usual hard-banger techno varieties, which have become “a bit boring”.
Since Field Day is heralding the start of 2011, I ask Pierre what he thinks dance music will sound like next year. He is really digging the blend of nu-disco and electro that is influencing the genre at present, and predicts that our ears will be treated to much more of this.
Join Yuksek and his buddies Aeroplane and Chromeo, plus many others on New Year’s Day in the lush landscape of The Domain from midday – 11pm. For tickets and more information visit www.fuzzy.com.au.
