1st Artrocker Awards feat. Bombay Bicycle Club at XOYO – Fri 2nd Dec
Artrocker, the self-proclaimed ‘World’s Only Weekly Rock ‘n’ Roll Paper,’ will be saluting the cream of the crop this winter with their first-ever awards ceremony.
Held at XOYO in London on Friday 2nd December, the Artocker Awards is set to be a celebration of not only some of the finest music to be released in 2011, but the magazine’s tireless hard work and devotion to up-and-coming music.
Included among the nominees are The Horrors, Bombay Bicycle Club and Metronomy, all of whom have been nominated for ‘Band Of The Year’ Award. Teeth and Ringo Deathstarr have been nominated for the ‘Best New Band’ award. Other categories include ‘Heavy Band Of The Year,’ ‘Electro Act Of The Year’ and ‘Album Of The Year.’
Across two rooms, an eclectic mix of artists will crank up the volume, with live sets from Super Furry Animal Gruff Rhys and rock ‘n’ roll throwbacks Jim Jones Revue and a DJ set by electro legend Gary Numan.
Bands up for awards have been giving their reactions. Dave Konopka of math-rockers Battles offered his gratitude to the publication: ‘As fans of the magazine, we would like to sincerely thank Artrocker and the Artrocker community for their acknowledgement of Battles in each nomination.’
Bombay Bicycle Club quipped: “It’s an honour to be nominated for the first Artrocker awards. Just a shame they didn’t have a ‘best looking drummer’ award.”
Tickets can be bought for £15 in advance from XOYO and a number of online ticket agencies.
