3 Days Exploring Kakadu And Litchfield

Join a Kakadu Wild Expedition of Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks. On a three-day 4WD group safari, you can take in the dramatic landscape of these two areas, including wetlands, waterfalls and rainforest.

Departing from Darwin, you travel into Wulna Country for a Welcome to Country by the traditional owners of the land, including bushtucker talks, didgeridoo demonstrations and basket weaving. With a stop at the Mary River Wetlands, you join a cruise to spot the lurking saltwater crocodiles before heading into Kakadu National Park in the afternoon. Your first stop in the park is Maguk, or Barramundi Gorge. Following a hike, you’re rewarded with a swim in the inviting plunge pools before you spend the night in your permanent campsite.

Time to wake early on day two for some action-packed four-wheel-driving to the spectacular Jim Jim Falls, the jewel of Kakadu and undoubtedly a highlight of your experience. Take in the sight of the 200m walls and enjoy a swim or some relaxation on the sand banks. After some lunch, it’s time to head to Ubirr, a hotspot in the Top End for ancient Aboriginal rock art and the best sunsets you could possibly ask for. With a cultural walk, you get to climb to the top of a rocky lookout for fabulous views over the Nardab floodplain. After taking in the sunset, you return to the Mary River region for another night under the stars.

On day three, you leave Kakadu for Litchfield National Park, filled with waterholes and waterfalls. Soak up the tranquillity of the tropics by visiting Florence Falls, Wangi Falls and the Buley Rockholes. With a picnic lunch, rainforest stroll and a dip in one of many of Litchfield’s swimming holes, this is the perfect way to end your expedition of Kakadu.
