5 Adrenaline-Fuelled Activities In Fiji
So you thought Fiji was boring, did you? Pristine beaches, transparent waters; perfect for siestas under the sun and spending the retirement fund?
Well, R&R isn’t all there is to do in Fiji. Here’s our list of the islands’ top adrenaline-packed and exciting activities for those of you with steely courage and itchy feet:
1. Take The Longest Zip Line
Beginning deep in the dense rainforest, just 25 minutes from Pacific Harbour, Fiji’s “Adventure Capital,” in Zip Fiji’s private eco-reserve, you can feel the kick of adrenaline as you leap off into the South Pacific’s largest zip line adventure, spanning eight giant lines over the thick canopy and the Wainadoi River valley. You’ll be up in the air for nearly 2km. The show goes on in all weather conditions, except for overhead lightening and extremely heavy rainfall.
2. Swim With Sharks
Named the Best Shark Dive in the World by legendary diving duo Ron and Valerie Taylor, the Fiji Shark Dive is bound to get your blood pumping. You’ll get to see up to eight species of sharks, all just a 20 minute catamaran ride from the dive base. The divers work closely with conservation initiatives to encourage sustainable eco tour age and contribute to the sharks’ long-term survival.
3. Hop On a 4×4 Quad Bike
Quad bike riding is a lot of fun. You’ll streak over hills, past rivers, sugarcane plantations, traditional villages and mountains. Quad biking is usually available in dry conditions – that way you’ll get less mud on you. This is great for a high-speed adrenaline boost while taking in Fiji’s best sights and natural wonders. Change of clothes recommended.
4. Go On A Natural Rock Waterslide
Waitavala is a hugely popular series of small waterfalls which function as a natural waterslide. Swim with (or against) the current as you slip turn and twist your way down, ending up at a 4ft pool. Best enjoyed during wet season, you can still ride the slide during the drier times of the year, but at the risk of bruised bums and tailbones.
5. Hunt Lairo Crabs
Qamea is famous in Fiji for the tasty Lairo land crab that lives in the island’s hills and mountains. During full moons, Qamea resort coordinators organise crab hunts with the guests at sunset while the Lairo crabs make the journey towards the shore. Enjoy your success for lunch the next day.
