5 Essential Apps To Take On Your Travels

Follow us on Google News

Just because you’re Down Under doesn’t mean you need to be out of touch. Here are 5 essential apps to keep you connected (and safe) as you experience the best Australia has to offer.
1. PackPoint – OK, so this one is only useful before you go, but it’s still super cool. PackPoint helps you to generate a customized list of items you should pack and is therefore especially useful for longer trips. You simply enter some basic information: destination, date, length of your stay or purpose of the trip. Then you specify your agenda from “fancy dinner” to “international” – and the app will calculate what you should pack. Weather information is taken into consideration and shown on top of the list. Available on iOS and Android.
2. Wire – Want to stay in touch with family and friends back home or new friends you make along the way? Look no further. This beautifully designed app offers free, crystal clear calls from anywhere with Wi-fi/mobile data. With high definition in-line pictures, SoundCloud music and YouTube video sharing in personal and group chats, Wire is a great way to share your adventures. Available on iPhone, Android and web.
3. Google goggles – A tool that automatically helps you search and gather information about something by taking a picture of it. All you have to do is point your phone camera at a painting, famous landmark, product or popular image, then you take a photo of it and if Google can find it, it will provide you with useful information and background knowledge about it. Available on Android.
4. Safeture – Given the recent alerts in some parts of the world, this app provides real-time local safety information 24/7, including health alerts, severe weather warnings, local emergencies, civil unrest and terror attacks. It also allows you to share your location with family, friends and colleagues so they know your whereabouts at any given time – and you know theirs. Available on iOS and Android.
5. Foodspotting – A guide to good food and where to find it. It’s the leading app for finding and rating dishes, not just restaurants. It allows you to review food and see where friends and other foodspotters recommend you eat around the world. It has a ‘where can I find the best …’ search function which means you can locate the best place to eat any particular dish you might crave. Available on iOS and Android.
