5 Ultimate Winter Sun Destinations

Follow us on Google News

If you’re refusing to spend the next few months freezing your bones off in the UK, but don’t know where to go to escape it, here are our top 5 ultimate destinations where you can find some winter sun.

1. The Canary Islands

Although these volcanic islands are actually a part of Spain, they are in line with Morocco so they stay sunny and toasty warm all year round. In the winter months, you can expect an average temperature of between 17 and 18°C. While your friends are shivering away at home, you could be hiking up dormant volcanoes, surfing, and enjoying that sweet Spanish tapas in the sun.

2. Thailand

If you like things a little hotter, then South East Asia is a good bet, with temperatures reaching the high twenties. The southern part of Thailand does not see ‘winter’ at all and November through to February actually sees a lot less rain than any other time. Do you need any more convincing?

3. Bali

Whilst your friends are waiting in the cold and wet for the bus to work, you could be wading in the warm seas of Indonesia, screaming with joy at Asia’s number one waterpark – Waterbom – or checking out the many ‘secret’ surf spots by scooter. The average winter temperature for Bali is a balmy 26-27°C.

4. Sri Lanka

Another surfer’s paradise, Sri Lanka has endless rolling waves to satisfy beginners to the most advanced beach bums. But if it’s cultural experiences that you’re looking for, then Sri Lanka’s temples and ruins, elephants and turtle sanctuaries, tea factories and famous old steam train journeys, will be more than enough to keep you exploring. January is actually the coldest time of the year, but at 27°C, we wouldn’t be complaining.

5. Barbados

Anywhere in the Caribbean is a fine bet for winter sunshine, but Barbados is our ultimate fave. The temperature on the island doesn’t really change, remaining between 26 and 27°C, and winter sees the least rainfall. It’s a popular Christmas destination so there’s always plenty going on for tourists to make you feel festive in the heat.
