6-Day Alice Springs To Adelaide Explorer

Alice Springs is the leap pad to some of the stars of the outback, and this tour wouldn’t be the same without them, so your experience begins at an authentic outback camel farm, the traditional desert transport. As an optional extra, you can see just how it feels to ride on the back of one of these residents. Back on your feet, you and your tour group head off to Kata Tjuta – 36 dramatic domes discovered on a Valley of the Winds hike – before watching the sunset over Uluru, otherwise known as Ayers Rock. Take in the clear night sky as you sleep beneath the stars in your traditional Aussie swag.

With an early start on day two, you can enjoy watching the sunrise over Uluru, and then take a walk around its enormous base and meet an Aboriginal guide to learn about the great rock’s importance to the Mala people. After a visit to the Cultural Centre, you enter Watarrka National Park – home of Kings Canyon and your campsite for the night. Remember those hiking boots we mentioned earlier? It’s time to put them on for a morning walk through Kings Canyon, including the Amphitheatre, Lost City and Garden of Eden. Tonight, you stay in Erlduna for another night under the stars.

You cross the Northern Territory border into South Australia on day four to reach Coober Pedy, the opal capital of the world. Once there, you take a tour of this unique town, including a visit to an underground mine and museum. If you want a special memento from your trip, you can buy some opal jewellery that’s made in the very mine, and then sleep underground in a bunkhouse.

Continuing south along the Stuart Highway, you pass salt lakes and the former military test site of Woomera, before stopping in Port Augusta for some lunch. Reaching the railway town of Quorn, you feast upon a BBQ dinner and spend the night in private accommodation.

Your sixth and final day continues the adventure with another hike to the summit of Dutchman’s Stern, where you can enjoy spectacular views of Quorn and the famous Flinders Ranges. As you near Adelaide, you stop at Mt Remarkable Lookout for even more photography moments, before your final stop at the wine country of Clare Valley and your arrival in Adelaide.
