A Techno Pioneer Returns For Two Dates
Detroit Techno pioneer Kevin Saunderson will return to Australia for two dates.
As one third of the famous ‘Bellville Three’ alongside Derrick May and Juan Atkins, it’s no exaggeration to call Kevin Saunderson a pioneer of techno music. (specifically Detroit Techno)
Moving to Bellville at the age of nine, Saunderson met May and Atkins at high school. The three were fans of DJ Charles ‘The Electrifying Mojo’ Johnson and the pop, disco, and funk music he played and subsequently started to experiment with playing their own music. Atkins and May soon became serious about mixing and producing music, but it wasn’t until 1987 after Saunderson had finished studying telecommunications and playing American football at Eastern Michigan University that he made his first record.
During his career, Saunderson has produced countless number one dance singles not only in the USA but across the world. His 1998 single ‘Big Fun’ under the moniker Inner Citer was named in BBC Radio 1’s Top 10 dance singles of all time and not once, but twice he was voted by DMC as the best dance act in the world.
Saunderson continues to DJ, sharing the sound of his funk inspired authentic Detroit techno. He will play two shows in Australia at Glamorama Bar in Melbourne on Friday 4th November and Chinese Laundry in Sydney on Saturday 5th November.
