7 Reasons Why Travel Is Good For You

Follow us on Google News

There’s no doubt that travelling can change your life. From seeing new places to meeting new people, its benefits are both mental and physical. So, here are our seven reasons for why travel is good for you.

1. Improve Your Social Skills

If you suffer with any social anxiety at all, travelling will combat it by forcing you into situations where you have to meet with and speak to new people, especially if you’re travelling solo. So, make small talk with the person sitting next to you on the flight, strike up a conversation with a bartender, and get to know your hostel roommate.

2. Increase Your Knowledge

The only way you can really know about somewhere is to explore it. Travelling will improve your geography and your understanding of different cultures, without being stuck at a desk, so you learn a lot along the way and enjoy it!

3. Strengthen Your Relationship

Some say that travelling with a partner is the make or break of the relationship. And this can be true. Travelling makes you discover more about a person than however long you previously spent with them, and sharing experiences with one other person strengthens a bond, because it’s something just the two of you have together.

4. Get Active

Most of the experiences associated with travel are active – swimming, snorkelling, hiking, cycling. And chances are, you’ll still have the urge to do them and stay active when you return home.

5. Live Longer

There have been a number of scientific studies that have found that people who holiday more often, actually live longer. A 2013 US study found that men and women who travelled at least once a year had a lower risk of developing heart disease.

6. Improve Your Patience

You’re going to be waiting around a lot while travelling. From waiting for flights to queuing at hotel receptions, there will be plenty of opportunity to test your patience and learn to deal with it.

7. Tick Off Goals

Every traveller has that bucket list of things they want to do and places they want to see, and ticking these off makes you feel positive, successful and confident.
