A Day In Northbridge, Perth
For those visiting or living in Perth, Northbridge is synonymous with entertainment and there are many reasons why.
Located just outside the city centre, the area is a main weekend destination for many who hope to refresh after a week of routines with endless choices of fun and relaxation, and also one of the city’s most popular tourist destinations. In every corner of the buzzing suburb, you’ll find whatever you need to have fun and time will fly from afternoon to late evening. It’s simply impossible to run out of things to do while in Northbridge, and you only need to spend a day there to prove that!
If you arrive early, start your exploration with a good breakfast complete with a steaming cup of coffee. Sayers Sister on Lake Street is one of Perth’s favourite breakfast spots, with their signature versions of breakfast recipes such as poached eggs with potatoes and apple rosti and waffles with charred bananas. For the best coffee in the area, head to The Northbridge Coffee Roasters on Aberdeen Street, which takes pride in their meticulously crafted Braziliano coffee beans, roasted fresh daily. The second you enter the 79-year-old cafe, the strong smell of coffee is enough to make you stay well past lunchtime.
For a touch of the arts, continue your journey to Perth Cultural Centre where you can spoil your eyes with various displays of the best arts and culture the city has to offer. The Western Australian Museum showcases the richness of Western Australian nature, culture, and history and every spot in the building is open to exploration. You can also head to the State Theatre Centre’s Heath Ledger Theatre to catch up with high quality classic and contemporary stage performances by local and international artists. For more shows, make a stop at the James Street Amphitheatre to watch numerous performances and art installations created by students at Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA).
Northbridge is a paradise for foodies, offering the finest culinary delights from many parts of the world all times of the day. The Old Crow on Newcastle Street draws inspiration from Southern American cuisine and pampers their customers with a relaxing al fresco atmosphere and, of course, incredible food such as Brussels sprouts and maple pulled pork with hotcakes. If you’re more into nourishments from the Far East, Dragon Palace has the best selections of dim sum available in the city, and there you can also show off your karaoke talents!
As the daylight fades, it’s time to experience what Northbridge is best known for – nightlife. Northbridge is home to Perth’s best bars and pubs, and wherever you prefer to spend the night is right there in the area. If you simply want to have a few drinks and laughs with your mates, Rosie O’Gradys and The Cure Tavern provide the classic Irish atmosphere, including live traditional drinking songs and never-ending craic. For more of a crowd, get to one of the huge nightclubs like Metro City, or Connections Nightclub which caters for the gay and lesbian market, both of which lay on DJs and live performers to provide beats for you to dance the night away, and conclude your day in Northbridge with temptations to return!
