Are You Satisfied by Slaves Review
Does thrashy, snarling punk riffs and witty shout-a-long boozy anthems sound like your cup of tea? Yes? Well then let us introduce you to Slaves.
These two dapper chaps from Kent who have plied their trade around the grottiest of London pubs are pulverising the status quo of current mainstream music with their gritty, unapologetic brand of uniquely British punk. Having gained considerable attention from Radio 1 and NME with their sweaty, visceral DIY live shows, Slaves are about to release their debut full length album ‘Are You Satisfied’ which channels the socio-political wisdom of punk forefathers The Clash and The Jam, whilst mixing elements of Mike Skinner (The Streets) with their streetwise yet unmercifully potent vocal delivery.
Their latest single ‘The Hunter’ is a brain-melter from beginning to end, with the scratchy guitar riff laying the foundation for singer/drummer Isaac Holman’s damning lyrics about modern aristocracy, until the chorus when the pounding drums smash in and leave you bowled over.
Previous single ‘Feed The Mantaray’ could very well be a cheeky Madness song if it was mangled through a raging meat-grinder, and ‘Cheer Up London’ bullies you into questioning your own helpless existence by repeatedly hammering the words “Put another hole in your pay-cheque, you’re dead already!” in true anarchic fashion.
Youthful, nasty and wildly uncompromising, we cannot wait for the release of ‘Are You Satisfied’ at the end of May.
