Art Vs. Science
Art Vs. Science Art Vs. Science frontman Jim Finn is enjoying being home. Having spent the past couple of months on the road performing at pretty much any festival you can name as well as undertaking support slots for musical giants including The Chemical Brothers, it is easy to understand why Finn is relieved to see his own living room. Not that he will have long to enjoy it, given that shortly after we speak, he is headed down to the ABC studios to record a slot for ‘Rage’. Describing the impending as “one of those wow moments, it is something we have always dreamt of doing,” it is apparent that Finn is making the most of his new-found commercial success.
Art Vs. Science Having spent years playing in bands that headed nowhere, Finn finally found a line-up that worked. After his old school friend Dan McNamee attended a Daft Punk concert in 2007, he convinced Finn and Dan Williams to re-band (they had previously been in rock band Roger Explosion alongside Finn’s brother Tom) and explore a new field. Though he admits that “if people are good enough performers and musicians, then eventually they will find the hard work pays off,” he equally feels that re-jigging a tested formula is important. “If something isn’t working, then there is no point going over it time and again. You need to take a look at it and try something different.”
In effect, Art Vs. Science’s debut album “The Experiment” is born out of the theory. Rather than tying themselves to one thing, the boys decided to just lock themselves in the studio and play around. “Everyone says a different track is their favourite. Which is a good thing. It means that there is not really a stand out track.”
With the album already winning over new fans, the boys can hardly believe that just a couple of weeks ago they played a sold out gig in New York. With a headline tour due to kick off in June, Finn admits that all three of them are just feeling “very grateful and very lucky” to be in such a privileged position.
