Who else are flocking Australia's shores when it comes to world leading numbers? Not just backpackers.
More millionaires have come to our country in 2016 compared to much larger, not to mention wealthier, immigration destination countries such as the United States. This, according to a report released by the New World Wealth, a South African market research group.
According to the researcher, the number of millionaire migrants rose from 64,000 in 2015 to a whopping 82,000 last year.
Australia retained its top spot on the list as there were more than 11,000 millionaires made their way to Australia.
"For the 2nd straight year, Australia is the top country worldwide for millionaire inflows, beating out traditional destinations such as the United States and the United Kingdom," stated New World Wealth.
The data provided predates US President Donald Trump's election and his controversial executive order of placing travel restrictions on selected nations where majority of the citizens are Muslims, as well as his plans on deporting millions of illegal immigrants.
Next on the list was the United States with 10,000 migrant millionaires, followed by Canada with 8,000.
On 4th place is New Zealand, which is ahead of the United Kingdom, providing a strong indication that Chinese immigration does have quite an influence on both sides of the Tasman.
Mr Andrew Amoils, the head or research at New World Wealth, stated that personal safety and a good education system is at the top of the list of priorities for these in demand immigrants, as well as its proximity to Asia.
The proximity factor may have an indication to the departure point for a lot of these millionaire immigrations, which is China.
Last year, there were about 9,000 millionaires who left their home country last year, and the exodus was much larger in France, as there were 12,000 millionaires who left.
One of the many nations that has come out with visa programs to attract the wealthy immigrants is Australia.
Millionaire immigrants, most of them from China, were able to feed $3.8 billion into our nation’s assets since the creation of the investor visa category by the Australian government back in 2012.
