Australia Stopovers: A Health Retreat In Bali
Bali is beautiful. An Indonesian island of rice paddies, sacred mountains, ancient temples, glorious sunsets, uninterrupted nature and a laidback ambiance, it’s unlike anything we have in the west. If you’re travelling to or from Australia, Bali makes the perfect stopover. It’s no wonder that it has become one of the best destinations in the world to take a retreat.
The Retreat
The main ingredients of a retreat are a natural or beachside location, a villa, a swimming pool, en-suite bathrooms, and a healthy food menu sometimes focused on a vegetarian or vegan diet with little or no alcohol. Activities will most likely include yoga (one or two classes per day), meditation and massages to increase rejuvenation and inner peace, as well as spa services like facials and manicures, and excursions beyond the villa for local and cultural experiences. Retreats will generally cater to any level or degree of fitness and regime, and, of course, you need to find the right retreat for you.
Inner Temple Retreats hold a variety of retreats in an array of beautiful Bali locations. Based in the coastal village of Canggu on the south coast, their mini retreats are ideal for couples and friends over five days. Their other retreat is for women only. Six to eight days packed with workshops, these are unique experiences to feel safe, uninhibited, comfortable and empowered. In 2016, Inner Temple Retreats will be branching off into new Bali locations such as Nusa Lembongan, Rote Island and the mountains of West Bali.
After or before a retreat, you can explore all that Indonesia has to offer. With over 15,000 islands, there’s a real sense of adventure for the intrepid explorer. You can find help with booking onward travel or be referred to a local travel agent to book tours, flights and boat trips.
Dress Code
While you should wear modest clothing when in public places or visiting temples in Indonesia, bikinis, bathing suits and smaller items of clothing like shorts and vests are acceptable on a retreat.
Money
The currency in Indonesia is the Indonesian Rupiah, but you are likely to get a better exchange rate if you take your local currency and change it in Indonesia.
Getting There
The major airlines that fly to Bali are Singapore Airlines and Emirates with a typical stop in Singapore, Abu Dhabi or Bangkok. If you hold a British passport, are coming as a tourist and staying for no more than 30 days, you don’t need a visa to enter Indonesia.
