Occupations Added to the Regional (489) Occupations List for 18-19

For a while now our attention has been taken up with the changes that came about with the abolition of the 457 visa with much mixed emotion! However there are some exciting changes on the horizon for the Regional Occupations List (ROL) for the Skilled Regional (provisional) subclass 489 visa.

The Regional Occupations List is sporting 59 new skilled occupations which are listed below.

In 2017 a number of occupations were removed from the Regional Occupations List, including; Human Resource Advisor, Dental Hygienist, Dental Technician, Translator, Policy Analyst, Procurement Manager, Safety Inspector, Pathology Collector, Financial Institution Branch Manager, Vocational Education Teacher and Multimedia Designer. You will now find some of  these occupations added to the new ROL.
As we’ve stated in previous posts, the subclass 489 visa is available for both shorter and medium terms of up to 4 years total and offers a migration path toward the Skilled Regional subclass 887 visa – a permanent residency via. However, in order to qualify for permanent residency, the applicant must reside in a regional area of Australia for at least 2 years whilst working at least 35 hours per week in any occupation for at least 12 months.

The Pros of a Subclass 489 Visa

In the past, many skilled migrants made the transition from a Student or Graduate visa to permanent residency via the General Skilled Migration program. This was through either a Skilled Nominated subclass 190 or the Skilled Independent subclass 189 visa.
