Why not make your first stop Munich, particularly in the month of September when Oktoberfest, a renound beer festival, is on for two weeks. You can enjoy the flowing beer, listen to live music, sample local delicacies and party to your heart’s content. If you are more cultural and creative direction then head to Alte Punakothek and browse over 800 unique art pieces including works by Ruben Titan and Albrecht Durer. Stay at the Wombats City Hostel or the Euro Youth Hostel, both of which are close to attractions such as the Nymphenburg Palace which sports a baroque style, a huge banquet hall and extensive gardens.
Places To Discover
Move on, with a high speed train trip to Cologne for a truly cultural experience. Kolner Dam, a beautiful Gothic Cathedral is worth a visit and after climbing 503 steps you will see a phenomenal view of the city. After tiring yourself out why not visit the Agnesviertel which is filled with local shops and cafes. If the weather is good then head down to Grungurtel where you can soak up the sun and enjoy the beer garden. Stay at Cologne Downtown Hostel which has an attractive outdoor seating area or Black Sheep Hostel which is only a stone’s throw from the main attractions.
Finally, why not hop on over to Amsterdam? People tend to know this city because of the red light district but it has much more to offer including the Van Gogh Museum and Anne Frank Museum. Take a small detour around the Jordaan and taste traditional apple pies as you drink coffee and watch the world go by. Stay at Hostel Cosmos Amsterdam which has a brilliant atmosphere or Shelter City which is a Christian hostel that serves breakfast. There is so much to do in Europe that it is simply impossible to pick one city. Backpacking on a low budget can be a great way to see this wonderful continent.
