Two floors, two stages, and now open daily from 12 noon (Tue-Fri) until way past your bed time. Open for lunch, tasty tea & cakes, dinner, cracking cocktails, ground breaking comedy and superb music. Welcome to the Bedroom Bar, a unique venue in East London.

After 20 years as The Comedy Café with it’s upstairs loft space, The Bedroom Bar has re-opened with a fresh outlook. With comedy moving to the intimate theatre-style upstairs room, Bedroom Bar’s heritage blends with a new look and fresh take on the comedy scene; whilst also standing alongside exciting live music programming, welcoming in acts from around the world.

Bringing alternative and fantastical live music back to the area, the genre crossing Bedroom Bar purveys quality sound systems on 2 stages and spacious dance floors. With our restaurant now open and captained by Leo Soto and his crew, you can expect a range of tasty Ango-Brasilian dishes, the bars also feature an exciting new cocktail menu designed by Soulshakers.

White Mink is the zeitgeist-capturing, critically acclaimed speakeasy where the sounds and styles of the 1920s and 30s are turned on their head and smuggled into the 21st century. This month with a host of stellar guest DJs such as king of UK Mash up, Scott Cairo, who goes vintage for a night, queen of electro swing Tallulah Goodtimes and Glitch swing king DJ Razzamatazz, we also welcome Sound Assembly with their live remix and swing dancers from Swing Patrol coming along. It’s set to be a smasher across Bedroom Bar’s 3 rooms.

Russ is behind some of London’s most successful clubs including London Calling and No Room for Squares in the mid 90’s. Fast-forward to the 21st Century and Russ has become pretty much the preeminent ‘global beats’ and world music DJ in the UK.

DJ: MR MCEWEN
The Fontanelles are a new band made up of established musicians from the world of Jazz, African and Reggae music. They have forged their own identity, which has seen them create an original powerful and compelling live show of instrumental dance music. Musical influences draw on the great Fela Anikulapo Kuti, as well as dub, funk and jazz and iconic other creators such as Mulatu Astake, Sun Ra, James Brown, Scientist and Steve Reich.

Mr McEwen, Chinese Man’s (France) UK tour support, is an up and coming DJ from London taking you on a journey through hip hop’s history in a mash up of artists, sounds, beats and pieces.

Do Amor is made up of members of Caetano Veloso’s band Ce, one of the biggest Brazilian artists of all times. Coming all the way from Rio they are sure to surprise you with their unique sound, made of eclectic influences ranging from Carimbo’ to Manchester Rock mixed with an exciting 21rst Century Brazilian sound. Their album is a declaration of their love to music. Expect a fresh mix of ethnic beats.

Aiden Killian compères a great line up of comedy with circuit favourite Gordon Southern opening proceedings, then Christian Ancliff moves the show up a gear and Earl Okin closes the show, in a way that only he can.

Backyard Brew invites The Drop, a 9-piece roots-rock-reggae outfit based in and around London. They are a part of the small but significant front-line of British new-wave reggae bands. They are pushing with a sincere awareness of the British reggae revival that has been a long time in the coming. Also on the night, tune in on DJ Wrongtom, Aiden Skylarking and Shepdog;s soulful, jungle, hip-hop and dancehall beats!

Holly Walker is a London girl; lives in Camden, plays ivories and sings her very own version of what she likes to term ‘wayward’ or ‘thrash pop’. Tending to write mostly about love, loss and lunch. Come along to Bedroom Bar to celebrate the launch of her aptly named EP, “Bedroom Bangers”.

Taking the ground breaking recordings of key New Orleans player such as Professor Longhair & Huey ‘Piano’ Smith as their starting point, the band’s mission was to bring the post war New Orleans sound firmly back to life. So, expect lost Caribbean-meets-RnB grooves reinvigorated and back with a vengeance. So get your glad rags on and stretch on out over funk and laid back Louisiana rhythm and blues. DJ Crash & Burn plays a mix of old time rhythm and blues, Mexican rockability, exotic eastern ska, naughty calypsos, sizzling sista soul and yee haw country boppers. You won’t hear anything else like it and it’s a guaranteed recipe for rollicking dancefloor mayhem!

The OK_MA Live Review sees Young Lee & Jake joined by an amazing 4 piece horn crew, the ‘SUB-C BRASS SECTION’ who’ll be coming on like the JB’s on a Mark Ronson record whilst a dope percussionist sets the rhythm. Acting as the bass and drummer is Young Lee, digging out the dusty breaks and future looking funk. A truly bespoke monthly throw down.

And upstairs we welcome The Other Side, featuring DJs Chris Franck (Da Lata) & Tyne (Ceviche) presiding over a positively balmy selection of musical treasures with a heavy nod to Afro & Latin through disco, funk and house, from Haiti to Harlem. This month, kicking things off, guests come in the form of the hugely influential Quietus DJs. Known for their genre bending website that has set the benchmark for online music editorial, these guys know a thing of two about all that matters past & present.

Flavio Renegado has been making moved in the Brazilian music scene for a long time now. He heads to London all the way from Sao Paulo with his hip-hop baed sound incorporates other musical influences such as reggae, maracatu Cuban music, African rhythms, samba and other sounds typical of Brazilian culture. He is joined by our in house favourite, Madera Verde.

Join Gareth Richards, 2010 Fosters Edinburgh Comedy Award best newcomer nominee for his brand new show of jokes and songs about being an introvert stuck in an extrovert’s world. Gareth’s parents could not afford to take the whole family to Disneyland, so they went without him. Gareth has never recovered, always feeling that he has been shut outside of life’s theme park. And John Robins Comedy;s best kept secret’ (Skinny) returns! There are all new stories, banter and bombs to drop. Fresh from his appearance on Russell Howard’s Good News (BBC3) he tells tales of childhood innocence and adult shenanigans.

DJ: CRASH & BURN + SOUL PROVYDER
Los Charly’s Orchestra is a London based collective created, produces and lead by Venezuelan producers Juan Laya and Jorge Montiel. Combining a retro and exhilarating modern sound, they are characterized by a unique edge that blends the Boogie-Disco sound of the 70’s with a serious Latin perspective.

And upstairs we have Latin Aoktearoa with Bobbito Brazuka on the decks with his dope as Latin jams from cumbia & calypso to salsa, bossa and samba soul. Joined by Jennifer Zea on vocals and all round talented muso Isaac Aesili on percussion and steel drum. Closing the night DJ Soul Provyder.

Simon comperes with the exciting Nabil Abdulrashid opening. Rising comic starts of the future Harriet Kembsley and Tez Ilyas perform two short sets and the energetic funny man Tobias Persson closes the night.

Bedroom Bar welcomes The Red Hot Grind Show, a night of exotica funk, burlesque boogie, electro-billy and cocktail crunk. Special guests are London’s Voola & The Jayhawks, legendary swinging kings of voodoo RnB.

Upstairs, RE:PLAY is a back to basics club night that gives guest DJs space to express themselves in full length sets and dance floors time to get on their groove – with one twist. During the set the DJ will play a section of music from a particular point in their career. Ben Osborne will be joined by Justin Robertson, who brings us an eclectic set varying from house to reggae & northern soul and trip hop.

Simon comperes with the exciting Nabil Abdulrashid opening. Rising comic starts of the future George Zach perform two short sets and the energetic funny man Tobias Persson closes the night.
