Best Cafe’s In Melbourne
If there is one phrase that optimises Melbourne it’s cafe culture. With a coffee house or ten on every single street it can be hard to decide which way to turn for a cup of the good stuff. Melbourne’s cafe scene is constantly evolving and new shops open weekly but to give you a head start we’ve done some of the hard work for you and found six of the best cafe’s in Melbourne.
Galleon Cafe
Possibly the trendiest of coffee shops to be found in Melbourne’s beach resort of St Kilda, if you can stand the wait you will reap the rewards of their vast veggie menu washed down with copious amounts of coffee, a great way to kill even the nastiest of hangovers. Started in the 80’s it has retained its retro decor with minimal modern touches to keep it functioning to its full potential – an original St Kilda institution and a favourite of ours. 9 Carlisle Street, St Kilda, Melbourne – 96504399 www.galleoncafe.com.au
Journal Canteen
Located inside every book-worms dream – the City Library – it doubles up as coffee shop serving savory dishes by day and wine and antipasto by night. A popular choice for lunch, don’t be put off by the amount of people filling the large tables, once the rush has died down it is a relaxing place to read, study or just enjoy being amongst the books with a good cup of coffee. 253 Flinders Lane, Melbourne – 96504399 www.journalcity.com.au
Brunetti
What Campos is to Sydney, Brunettis is to Melbourne – an institution. The original Brunetti shop can be found at 194-204 Faraday St and is a must visit for anyone in Melbourne who loves an authentic Italian coffee and a good pastry. Just make sure you either have a lot of time or patience as it gets incredibly busy, particularly around the delectable cake counter. If you do manage to wait it out grab your coffee and cake to go. It might be buzzing inside but it’s anything but relaxing so head to the nearest park and enjoy! 194-204 Faraday Street, Carlton, Melbourne – 93472801 www.brunetti.com.au
Roller Door
If there’s one thing Sydney and Melbourne have in common it’s the lack of action in the west, but that was until Roller Door was discovered. A pint-sized converted shed you’ll find locals and commuters all stopping by for a cup of dark roast, with a full, creamy mouth-feel, earthy and spicy. Their breakfast menu is brief but all good things come in small packages, right? From organic granola with biodynamic yoghurt to organic sandwiches and focaccias for lunch, it’s all delicious in these Melbourne coffee spot. 13 Stawell Street, West Melbourne – 0449 208 681
Degraves Espresso
Located right in the centre of the CBD you are spoilt for choice of coffee houses to drink in but if you pick one, head for Degraves Espresso. The taste of the coffee speaks for itself and while you may down two coffees while waiting for your food to arrive, it will be worth the wait. Then sit back in the comfy leather chairs, relax and watch the fabulous city of Melbourne pass you by as you drink warming and tasty coffee. 23-25 Degraves Street, Melbourne – 96541245
Omar & the Marvellous Coffee Bird
Stripped back to the extreme this place is all about one thing, and one thing only – coffee. Sourced from around the world even the menu takes a backseat to the single-origin of the day. With pale wood, tables on rails so they can glide, produce stacked on shelves in the open kitchen and the roasting machine tucked in a corner it’s got a charm that few other coffee houses can afford.
