Best Deals in Melbourne At The Shaw Davey Slum
The team at BBM love a bargain, but we especially love a bargain when we don’t have to compromise on style. We’ve been looking for the best deals in Melbourne and The Shaw Davey Slum has come up trumps.
Why we’re fat…
We can’t resist the food at The Shaw Davey Slum, it’s simply delicious. One of our favourite dishes to chow down on is their Beef and Bush Pie. “Why?” we hear you ask. Because the Cabernet Merlot and onion gravy just makes it ridiculously nice. We’re also partial to the Chicken Schnitzel breaded in Kellogg cornflakes served with French fries and salad, and their Cheese Burgers. We also like to indulge ourselves on their incredible sharing platters, especially the Sampler Platter which includes Pork Belly, Pancetta, Buffalo Wings, Calamari and Polenta Chips. And what’s great about all these dishes is they’re all just $10 a pop.

Why we look cool when we’re there…
The decor is as delectable as the food. And we love nothing more than sitting in a cool bar, feeling sophisticated and mellowing our sorrows of the week with their $10 jugs of beer, as it’s not going to break the bank. Located just off of Lygon Street in Carlton ‘The Slum’ also has an openable rooftop, 36 gold plated cricket stump beer taps; a cocktail list representing the interpretation of the traditional ’60s milk-bar candy selection; hand made concrete bar top embedded with 24 carat gold and silver leaf on the ground floor and seashells on the top floor… beautiful!

Why we’re a bit bleary eyed…
The Shaw Davey Slum certainly know how to serve up a drink or two, and we can’t resist our weekend reveling when it comes to their $6 spirits. With Belvedere, Jack Daniels, Cointreau, Galliano and tons more spirits, the only problem you’ll have here is choosing what to drink from their extensive drinks menu.

Why we’re thoroughly entertained…
On Fridays from 5pm you can enjoy the awesome roof terrace at The Shaw Davey Slum, along with DJ’s from 7pm, meaning you can dance and meet new friends until 1am. And if you want to carry on after hours, you can visit their handy Bottle-o to pick up a couple of beers for home.

Why you’re wondering about their name…
The name is an oxymoron and a celebration to Carlton’s diverse history of a great era for Australian Culture. And ‘The Slum’, as it’s been dubbed, has a mantra of providing great value for money.

Why you should visit…
To sum up why you should head to The Shaw Davey Slum, if you like good food, good drinks, a fantastic atmosphere and a cool crowd then this is the Melbourne bar for you.
