The best thing about summer is that it gives us an excuse to get outside, and there’s no better time to head to a festival. With that in mind, here’s a list of the best festivals to check out in Australia this December.

Tropfest

The finalists have been announced for Australia’s Tropfest 2014 on 7th December. Massive, free outdoor screenings will be taking place in locations such as Sydney’s Centennial Park from 11am-11pm and Melbourne, Canberra, Perth and Adelaide. Titles and synopses include ‘Twisted: The good, the bad and the inflatable’ and ‘You Wanna Order Pizza: Two stoners try to order pizza’.

This New Year’s Day, five stages of underground electronic music come to the 100-year-old mansion at Werribee Park. This year’s line-up includes Alexander Nut, Axel Boman, Ben Pearce, Bob Moses, Carl Craig, Cashmere Cat, DJ Sneak, DJ Vadim, DOV1, Fatima, Goldie, Hudson Mohawke, Kink, Midland, Mr. Carmack, Psychemagik and Todd Terje. Second round tickets are still available at $160pp.

On Sunday 28th December, Melbourne’s Brown Alley will be turned into a drum ‘n’ bass jungle. Headliners this year include Andy C, State of Mind, The Funk Hunters and DJSS & Grooverider. First release tickets are still on sale for $65pp.

Lost Paradise

The three-day boutique camping festival runs from 30th December – 1st January in Glenworth Valley, Peats Ridge in NSW. Headline performers include Boy and Bear, Maxology and Touch Sensitive. Tickets are going fast, but third release is still available at $299pp including general camping. Lost Paradise has more to offer than just great music, including a circus, yoga, Shambala Healing Spa, Holi lights, smoke ceremonies and more.

Field Day

Spend New Year’s Day 2015 at the Domain, next to the Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney. There are some big names and great emerging acts this year at Field Day, including alt-j, Dillon Francis, SBTRKT, Bastille and Milky Chance. Tickets cost $118pp plus booking fee.

Crack open those piggy banks and fetch your tents. It’s festival time!
