September is fast approaching and the first glimmers of spring are starting to show. How better celebrate than to get yourself down to see some (mostly local) live music?
Here is the best of what September has to offer across Australia…..
• Ball Park Music are a six-piece indie rock/pop band from Brisbane. They independently recorded their debut EP ‘Rolling On The Floor, Laughing Ourselves To Sleep’ in April 2009. After touring in 2010 with the likes of Boy & Bear and Cloud Control, they were then named by Triple J as one of the 20 best new bands in Australia.

• Birds of Tokyo in 2004 as a collaboration between members of other Perth acts ‘Tragic Delicate’ and ‘Karnivool’. They have three studio albums and one live album under their belt. In March 2011 the band announced that bass player, Jackson, was leaving the band, no replacement has been made yet. The band will be touring in September and October 2011, Tour’, due to the fact that they have opted to play smaller venues than they have played in

• Gold Fields are an up and coming 5-piece band from Ballarat, Victoria. They are becoming
Naked and Famous’ on their UK tour. They play around with different genres but are mainly been growing in popularity ever since, check them out for some fresh local sounds.

• Jackson Jackson member in ‘The Cat Empire’. Jackson Jackson’s first album, ‘The Fire Is On The Bird’, was released beat and psychobilly. Their second album and latest album, ‘Tools For Survival’, was released in October 2008.

• John Williamson is an Australian country music singer-songwriter. Williamson has released 23 Golden Guitar Awards at the Country Music Awards of Australia and has won two ARIA Music Awards for Best Country Record.

• King Cannons and fast paced roots in punk rock and ska. They have just finished their New Zealand and to old school bands such as ‘The Clash’.

• Little Dragon consist of Swedish-Japanese singer and percussionist Yukimi Nagano and her close high school friends Erik Bodin on drums, Fredrik Källgren Wallin on bass and Håkan Wirenstrand on keyboards. They have 3 studio albums to date, including their 2011 release ‘Ritual Union’.

• Papa vs Pretty was a solo act of a teenage Thomas Rawle but in 2008 it became a 3-piece album, ‘United in Isolation’ was recorded in January and released in May. Tom Rawle has previously written unreleased albums which may be released in the future.

• Sebadoh helped pioneer lo-fi music; a style of indie rock characterised by low fidelity recording techniques, often on four-track machines. Their early music was typical of this style. Nine albums and one band member replacement later, Sebadoh have experimented with varying types of rock but always stayed true to their indie roots.

• Suzi Quatro in American sitcom Happy Days. She released a string of successful singles in the 1970’s, making her a worldwide name. She originally played bass guitar in all female band ‘Pleasure Seekers’ and has since produced 14 live and studio albums.

• The Cat Empire are a well known Australian ska and jazz band formed in 1999. Lead singer, Felix Riebl released a solo album earlier this year but that didn’t signify plan to perform at this year’s summer festivals as well as touring on their own.
