The best hostels in Alice Springs

Follow us on Google News

Alice Springs isn’t short on hostels and knowing which one to pick can seem like a daunting task. Some cater for the partying type, while others are peaceful and quiet. These get the balance just right.

Alice Lodge Backpackers

Located just outside the town centre, but only a 5 minute walk into town, this small but perfectly formed friendly hostel is one of the best. On offer is free Wi-Fi, an outdoor pool, well equipped bbq area, tv lounge and laundry. Rooms feature air con and a fridge and breakfast is included. The helpful tour desk can book you on to any number of tours including sunset camel rides and trips to the star of the show, Uluru.

Alice’s Secret Traveller’s Inn

This little gem is just across the Todd River an easy walk from town and is a clean, quiet and friendly place to base yourself. The rooms are basic but cheap and if you feel like splashing out, the Betty Boop bus room is a blast. There’s a pool, a pretty garden complete with hammocks and if you fancy some music have a go on the in house didgeridoo.

Alice Springs YHA

What was once the old Pioneer outdoor cinema is now a quality YHA hostel in an excellent location in the middle of town. As expected with YHA, the place is well run and clean and the rooms comfortable. There is a small pool and, in keeping with the building’s original purpose, there are nightly screenings of movies under the stars. Anything but Wolf Creek.

Jump Inn Alice

A newcomer to the scene opening in May 2017, the Jump Inn is a colourful little gem set on a tree lined street within walking distance of restaurants, shops and the all important supermarket. Rooms are ensuite and, as expected, everything is brand new. There’s a pool and friendly staff and plenty of shady trees to cool off from the desert heat.
