Best Roast Dinners In Sydney

Follow us on Google News

You may be fed up of the cold and wet weather, which currently mirrors that of the UK summer, and you probably want to go somewhere warm for an afternoon to forget about it all. Here at BBM, we’ve had an eat around town on your behalf to find the best roast dinners in Sydney. You’ll probably think it’s impossible to get a traditional roast dinner in Sydney, but believe us, there’s plenty of places in Sydney serving Sunday Roasts… so here’s a few where you can get your fill.

The Bat and Ball Hotel

The Bat and Ball Hotel is one of BBM’s favourite Roast Dinners in Sydney. Traditional Sunday roasts start from just $15 per head and this comes with all the trimmings including proper Yorkshire Puddings! Choose from Beef, Half a Chicken or Pork and wash it down with a $12 Jug of Coopers shared between your pals. If you’re British or Irish and looking for a taste of home, this the one for you.

The Porterhouse

If you’re feeling a little bit homesick and are pining for a proper taste of home, then go to The Porterhouse. Cosy and traditional, they have award-winning food to fill your tummy, including what they call Sydney’s best and original roast. It comes served with roast potatoes, pumpkin, peas, carrots all topped off with Yorkshire pudding and gravy. The best bit about The Porterhouse’s roast is that it only costs $12. Pints of Guinness, Kilkenny and Bulmers are only $6 too, perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Pilu at Freshwater

For an expensive treat, take a trip to Pilu at Freshwater. It’s a little bit out the way, but if you’re celebrating a birthday, anniversary or different special occasion, then it is so worth the effort. They do an oven roasted suckling pig with rosemary scented crackling for $100 for two people. Yes, it is expensive, but it is the stuff of legend and comes served with pinzimonio, seasonal vegetables and roast potatoes. Booking ahead is recommended to ensure you get a table and a roast.

The Gazebo

At the Gazebo, they serve up a roast that your mother would be proud of. Along with the meat, you get all the trimmings of green veg and potatoes with a Yorkshire pud and gravy to boot. To heat you up further still, they have a Sunday special of $15 jugs of Pimms and Sangria – just to give you that ‘warmer climate’ feeling inside. It’s okay, we can ignore the rain lashing at the window, just grab your mates and get some hearty grub!

Sticky

This bar above Table For 20 does a roast with a twist. Well, it’s not so much a twist, it’s just that their roast dinner is served on a Wednesday instead of a Sunday. However, if you fancy a mid-week feast, then Sticky’s $15 roast is a winner. The meat changes every week, so if you’re concerned about what might be on offer, then just phone up. The roast is served from 6pm until 9pm, with live music from 8pm. Great food with a great atmosphere – what more do you want?

The Chophouse

The Chophouse, as the name suggests, is for those who love meat. The interior is beautifully decorated and harks back to the era of the old New York steakhouse. For $18, you can get the roast dinner special that comes with beef, pork or half & half. Every roast dinner comes with a side of perfectly cooked crackling. The vegetables here get as much care and attention as the meat. Green beans are served with herb butter, while brussel sprouts are sautéed and served with white anchovy and rosemary – not like those sprouts you get at Christmas! The Chophouse is a taste sensation.

P.J.O’Brien’s

P.J.O’Brien’s claim they do ‘The Best Sunday Roasts in Town’. With roast beef, roast lamb, roast chicken and their ‘roast of the day’, there’s a whole host of roasts to choose from (have we said ‘roast’ enough yet?). The meat comes served with a creamy mash, seasonal vegetables and gravy. You can stay on after your dinner for a whisky and PJ’s ‘Trad Sunday Sessions’, from 6-9pm, featuring live Irish music. Perfect to keep you warm from the chill outside.

The Dolphin

As well as boasting Sydney’s biggest projector wall, running one storey wide and two storeys high, The Dolphin also has a pretty good (and cheap) roast dinner. If you buy one drink – not that it wasn’t going to happen anyway – you get a full roast dinner for $17.50 with all the trimmings. The Dolphin also does a ‘Build your own Bloody Mary’ all day on Sundays, where, for $9, you can purchase the ingredients for the cocktail and then make it yourself!

Four In Hand

Four In Hand do a weekly Sunday roast to die for. But if you feel like splashing out a bit, for $38 you can get the roast beef rump they do, which comes served with tongue, sweetcorn, bone marrow and smoked potato mayonnaise. Side dishes include salads with dressings that sound made up and steamed kipflers with shallots. However, if you and your mates really want to go all out, try the whole suckling pig with accompaniments. The minimum headcount required for this meal is 10 people and you need to phone up and give the restaurant 48 hours notice, but what you get in return is a divine meal fit for royalty.

Paddington Arms Hotel

Also located in Paddington is the Paddo Arms Hotel. Every week, for $24, they do a traditional Sunday roast with all the trimmings. They also have an extensive drinks list, including many beers, wines and spirits. Wines are available by the glass, but you might find it cheaper to order a bottle between friends and split the cost. Either way, it’s great food at a decent price, so what are you waiting for?
