Once it is summer in Australia, a great option is to head to the beach in a vehicle. With thousands of kilometres of coastline, there are many choices. Whether you want to have a lazy float, catch some waves or play some beach cricket, there are many picturesque spots for a dip.
Maslin Beach
A broad sweep of white sand, swells from the Southern Ocean and towering limestone cliffs provide a spectacular view.
Port Noarlunga
Port Noarlunga boasts of having marine life at its best thanks to the long reef that is located offshore. It is also a location that is easy to reach. A short swim from the end of the jetty will get you to the home of over 200 species of plants and animals which includes zebrafish, sea stars and stingrays.
Formby Bay
The Yorke Peninsula can become crowded during the holiday season but there are some less known beaches along the coastline like Gym Beach in Formby Bay which is also one of the most beautiful in Adelaide. It is located near Innes National Park near the peninsula. A path along clifftops and sand dunes will take you to the bay which has turquoise waters.
Second Valley
The Second Valley located on the Fleurieu Peninsula is surrounded by rolling hills, coastal cliffs and is a former fishing village. Although the beach may be quite small, it is a sheltered bay that is the home of the endangered leafy dragon, South Australia’s marine emblem. Seals and Dolphins are also regular visitors to these locations.
Pool of Siloam
A four-hour drive from Adelaide will lead to Beach Port. It comprises of a collection of beaches to choose from. The Pool of Siloam is a lake fed by an underwater spring. As it is located near the coast, the salt content it has is like that of the Dead Sea. Because of this swimmers will be buoyant and it is a perfect relaxing spot.
