Blue Mountains Hike the World Heritage
Just under two hours from Sydney, a road trip to the Blue Mountains isn’t particularly challenging or time-consuming, but along the way there are 18 discovery trails that provide beautiful detours and picturesque backdrops. An overnight stay in a hotel or private lodge provides the perfect excuse for a weekend away from the hustle and bustle of Sydney. Just read the following to discover what’s on offer on a Blue Mountains road trip.
Wentworth Falls
A particularly idyllic town, Wentworth Falls is a great place to head off into the Blue Mountains National Park, enjoy the views over Jamison Valley, or just relax with a picnic beside Wentworth Falls Lake. Along the main street of the village lie coffee shops and restaurants for civilised dining, but you can’t beat the fresh mountain air that graces the town.

Katoomba
Further into the Blue Mountains area along the A32 lies Katoomba, a historic town with old buildings, antique stores and local festivals throughout the year. This is the gateway to viewing the majestic Three Sisters, three jagged rocks pointing towards the sky that are an iconic image of the Blue Mountains. You can capture a sight of the Three Sisters from the Echo Point Lookout, or get on board Scenic World’s railway, walkway, skywalk or cableway for a different perspective. If the mountain air makes you sleepy, there are beautiful hotels more than willing to accommodate for that little bit of luxury in a stunning setting.

Jenolan Caves
From Katoomba, head towards Hartley and turn left onto Jenolan Caves Road for a visit to the Jenolan Caves. You are provided with breathtaking scenery along the drive and a wonderful expedition once you get to the caves. Regarded as one of the best cave systems in Australia, the Jenolan Caves contain underground rivers and limestone crystal formations with 10 “show” caves to gawp at. There are regular tours to get the most out of the natural beauty and adventure each of them offer. Pull on a head lamp and climb your way through the ancient passageways and into the depths of the earth; learn about the legends, mysteries and ghosts during the night tours; and behold the Concerts In The Caves underground performances on most Saturdays from 4pm.

Mount Tomah
Back onto the A32, from Hartley, drive through the heart of the Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens in Mount Tomah. Lying at the peak of a mountain, the gardens are home to over 5000 cool climate parks in a 28-hecatre area including The Jungle, containing lush, green ferns and enormous sassafras trees. There’s even a lodge to sleep up to 10 lucky guests in self-contained accommodation.

These are the amazing places you can see along your journey to the Blue Mountains, just a short drive from the centre of Sydney. So sit back and enjoy the journey to one of the most outstanding areas of natural beauty on this Blue Mountains road trip.
