Queensland’s Bonka are a dynamic duo made up of Lachlan and Connor, two flamingly excited DJ/Producers who have been known to tear down walls in clubs, upon the delivery of their slick main room and mash-up mixes on the frequent. Notably one of Australia’s most sought-after lords of mash-up, Bonka has it nailed with paragons like: The Chainsmokers, Timmy Trumpet, Deorro, Tujamo, Tommy Trash, TJR and more sprinkling their sets with a well infused Bonka lead, whilst also owning their explosive live shows across the country.
Continuing with our series of interviews from artists, DJ’s and producers from all over the world, we caught up with the Brisbane DJ duo to hear about their musical influences, favourite festival, their home town and Thailand.
What’s your name and what do you?
Hey, We are Connor and Lachlan and we are DJs who play as a duo called BONKA
What kind of music do you play?
We play virtually any genre of music, as we classify ourselves as open format DJs, however if we had to classify it just commercial music blended with a variety of other dance music genres
What would you say is your biggest influence?
Biggest influence would have to be producers such as 3Lau, Kapslap and Girl Talk.
Where’s the best club you’ve ever played?
Insanity in Bangkok or Sky Garden in Bali
And the best festival?
Eaton’s Hill NYD Foam party is one of the craziest shows we have played, period.
Where’s the most unique festival you’ve been to and what was so special?
Stereosonic, and the answer to why it was so special was, it was my first festival I ever went to and I had the time of my life, and we were fortunate enough to play at it the following year.
Where’s your hometown?
Brisbane and Ipswich respectively
What’s your favorite local bar/restaurant/bar/club?
Favorite local bar would have to be Yard bird in fortitude valley, Brisbane <3
Where’s your favorite clubbing destination?
Eaton’s hill without a doubt!
Is there something you can’t travel without?
My laptop, my life literally revolves around my laptop!
What travel destination would you recommend our readers add to their bucket list?
Koh Samui in Thailand, It has some of the most amazing culture there as well as an incredible tourist scene including amazing nightlife!
Where was the most surprising place you discovered a big musical influence?
We once saw Croatia squad, he was djing in a small tucked away bar in Jakarta in Indonesia, we were there with our manager and honestly to this day I’ve never seen a vibe like that when a DJ was playing,
Where can we see you play over the next few months?
The next few months we are touring all over Australia, hitting all capital cities and playing a fair few regional shows as well, and then we are jetting off to Europe immediately after we finish this leg of the tour!
