Follow us on Google News

Sydney is quite known for its high cost of living for both people who live there and tourists alike. However, Sydney has such great opportunities for someone who is looking to move to Australia that it is hard to ignore it as an option. If you are wondering if you should even consider moving to Sydney at all, here is an average breakdown of costs that can help you decide.

Rent

Rent is where the majority of your money will disappear. Depending on what local area you are in Sydney, the price will vary. However, the average prices for a one bedroom apartment are around $400-600 for one week. The price will also be for a very average size apartment, so do not expect anything too fancy.

Rent in Sydney is one of the most expensive for cities in Australia, however, is slightly cheaper when compared to other cities around the world including London, New York, Hong Kong, etc.

Extra Living Costs

Do not forget to add in other costs to your rent. Costs include purchasing large appliance items, as well as other monthly utility bills including electricity, heating, water, garbage, Internet, and cable.

Food

Food will widely depend on your pre-existing eating habits as well as where you shop. If you are always eating out, expect to spend a lot more on food per month. An average inexpensive meal will cost around $15.00. However, if you buy in bulk and cook at home, over the course of the month you will see that you have saved quite a lot of money.

Transportation

Transportation costs can be expensive, however if you buy a monthly pass for public transport you can save money. Public transportation is relatively convenient and is easy to use. Traffic in Sydney can get quite severe, and with the parking being expensive, it is often easier to use the public transportation.

Having such a high cost of living should not be something to put you off a move to the stunning city. There so many benefits that you can find when you are living in Sydney and plus, there are plenty of ways that you can save in Sydney and still enjoy your life.
