Brynny Interview

Follow us on Google News

Over the last two years, Melbourne Bounce has risen from Melbourne’s club life to become one of the most influential sounds in today’s EDM scene. Brynny is a young gun producer and DJ from Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula who is being earmarked as one to watch in a scene that is filled with talent. His recent bootleg of Rihanna, Yeezy and Paul McCartney’s ‘FourFiveSeconds’ has received over 1.5 million plays on Soundcloud to date, and has also received national radio airplay. We caught up with Brynny for a quick chat to find out a bit more about this future star…

You’re part of the Melbourne Bounce scene. Who are the some of the artists that we need to look out for in this scene?
There are a lot of younger guys coming through, but I think the main acts to look out for are guys like Victor, Zac Waters and Louderz. These three guys in particular are really pioneering the sound into its next level. They really are shaping the new sound and cementing it for the newer guys to follow.

So you make Complextro Bounce too – is that different to Melbourne Bounce? What is it?
Complextro Bounce is basically just a blend of a Complextro tune and a Melbourne Bounce tune – the name says it all really! It differs from regular bounce music in that it has those added complextro and dubstep-inspired leads, a good diversity in the track’s layout and always having those “wurgy” basslines we know and love.

Your ‘FourFiveSeconds’ bootleg has over 1.5 million plays now. Firstly congratulations, secondly how does it feel? How do you choose which songs you want to make bootlegs of?
Thank you! Well, it feels great, of course – the track has not only done a lot better than I had ever expected, but has also had support from many of my favourite Bounce producers including Will Sparks, who is often caught playing it in his sets overseas. I really have no idea how I pick those songs, but people would be really shocked to know how many bootlegs like that I have. Whereas there’s only about three that I’ve ever uploaded, there’s about 20 of them just sitting on my computer that are mostly for my sets only.

Since you’re from the Mornington Peninsula, it must mean you have to travel a lot to DJ. But when you are at home, what are your favourite spots to hang out at and why?
The Peninsula is good all over, but when I’m home I think my favourite place to be is just at home or at the local shop getting a hotdog. It’s the small things that make the Peninsula so special.

Name three of the best clubs you’ve been to so far.
Cloud Nine (home of Melbourne Bounce), Billboards and Alumbra. They are all in Melbourne!

If you could DJ anywhere in the world, any club, festival, radio show, podcast or theme park, where would it be?
EDC would have to be at the top of the list! Wow!

The world is coming to an end and you’re DJing the closing set at the End Of The World party at Cloud Nine. What do you close your set with?
My bootleg of ‘Don’t Wait’ of course!

Who are some DJs and producers you admire and who are some artists you’d like to work with in the future?
I love Reece Low’s work; he has been one of my favourites for a long time! I guess I haven’t really thought about who I’d like to work with in the future, I’m just taking everything as it comes I guess!

What’s your favourite meal the day after you’ve spent way too long at the club?
Berocca for breakfast, KFC for lunch and pizza for dinner – that’s the key.

What does 2015 have in store for you? More bootlegs? Original productions? Travel? An album?
I’m just trying to work on the cleanliness of my music at the moment, but I’m looking at official remixes, and just a lot of original productions.

Catch Brynny every week at Cloud Nine at Inflation nightclub in Melbourne.
