Burlesque at the Kent Street Living Room
Kent Street Living Room is a little gem, hidden away above the City Hotel. The room upstairs was set out with feather boas draped over the curious selection of vintage furniture. I sat down on a chaise longue to the left of the small stage and awaited the burlesque while eating far too many canapés from the generous waitress (who must have been a feeder).
The first act came on and it took some people a while to realise it had actually started as there was no compare to introduce the show or no drum roll to signify a grand entrance.
There was a few different ladies performing burlesque routines and each had a different costume and played a different role whilst on stage. Each and every one was alluring to watch and people watched wide-eyed with tongues hanging out.
There was a lot of audience participation throughout the night, the ladies would run in and out of the crowd giving sly winks, blowing kisses and throwing glitter in the air. All in all, they put on a good show, we were promised 1920’s burlesque and that’s exactly what we got.
The only down side was the lack of compare and the fact that when the music slowed down as it does seductively in burlesque, you don’t want to hear loud music being played from downstairs, that was a shame and brought it back that we weren’t in a 1920’s dancehall.
