The Significance of the number 60
It is not so hard to understand how the test goes. If you are planning to apply for an Australian visa, you would need to get a score of at least 60 points before you can proceed to doing that. Remember that earning 60 points does not mean you automatically get an Australian visa. But this is definitely taking a positive step towards it.
Once you pass the Australian immigration test then that would mean you can now submit an application for an Australian visa however, there are still other criteria that would need to be fulfilled. One tip to make sure you do everything right is to speak with a migration agent, as they can help make sure you apply for the right visa as there are quite a few types, each with different requirements and benefits.
Now that we have that out of the way, let us find out how you can pass your Australian immigration points test by getting 60 points or higher.
The skill that you have nominated for your visa
You can choose to apply for the Skilled Independent visa Subclass 189, which is considered to be the most superior visa, if your line of work ins included in the Skilled Occupation List, or SOL.
The amount of points you can get will depend on whether your skill appears or not on a state or territory shortage list, among other things.
You would have to be sponsored by either a state government or a family member/relative who lives in a designated area if planning to apply for a Skilled Regional (Provisional) Subclass 489 Visa, as you will earn extra points if you are sponsored that way.
In the mean time, there is no need for you to get a sponsorship to apply for a Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189) however, your skill must first be a part of the SOL.
The number of points you earn in this category would also differ, and the best thing to do is ask for a Registered Migration Agent’s help so you’ll know how many points you will probably be awarded with in each category.
Does age really matter?
For the younger people, this is good news for you – for individuals who are between the ages of 23 and 33, Australia automatically gives a huge 30 points – which is already 50 per cent of the points you need in order for you to apply for a visa. Applicants who are 50 years old or over will no longer be considered however, there are visas for the parents and grandparents of those who have already been given their Australian citizenship, so there are a number of ways for those aged 50 and above to get to Australia.
Here are the number of points you will receive based on your age:
From age 45 to 49: 0 points
From age 40 to 44: 15 points
From age 33 to 39: 25 points
