Young independent hip hop MC, Dylan Joel, will be launching his new ‘Kid Illin’ EP at this show. First finding his flair for music at the age of 12 when he began taking up various percussion instruments, it was at 15 that Dylan was thrown into the world of hip hop when he was an MC for ARIA award winning Sydney based group, Bliss n Eso. He’s since released numerous music videos, and performed in Canada and Australia in front of more than 1,000 people.

The ‘Underground Legions’ tour is hitting our shores this July, featuring old school metal warriors Goatwhore on their first headlining shows in Australia. The mighty Impiety, Singapore’s black/death metal legends plus Tasmania’s dark and extreme force, Ruins, as well as Order of Orias, will support. Goatwhore were last on Australian soil supporting Behemoth and Job for a Cowboy in 2012, immediately winning over audiences with their unique brand of extreme metal. The band returns in support of their critically acclaimed new album, ‘Blood For The Master’, released in February this year. Inspired by the old guard of Celtic Frost, Slayer and Kreator but with a modern and vicious twist, Goatwhore are one of the most talked about bands in metal today.

Hot on the heels of his latest release, Simone Felice will be accompanied by his band of merry music makers when he brings his incomparable music and talent to our shores for this show. He’ll be joined by fellow countryman Josh Ritter on only his second ever visit to Australia, making this an unforgettable musical evening of enlightenment and discovery. For Simone Felice, his self-titled solo debut has literally been a lifetime in the making. The former drummer, writer and vocalist of The Felice Brothers had to cancel his 2010 Australian tour to undergo sudden open-heart surgery after a childhood congenital defect brought him to the brink of death, and in a way his solo material has emanated from that experience, with his songs strikingly simple in their arrangements but extravagant in their emotional impact.

Following a spate of sold out shows across the country, Sydney four piece The Rubens release their brand new single ‘Don’t Ever Want To Be Found’. It’s the first new music from the band since their home-recorded track ‘Lay It Down’ blew minds and broke hearts when it found its way onto the airwaves last year and made it to #57 in the triple j Hottest 100. Hailing from country new South Wales and forming in early 2011, The Rubens have fast become one of the most exciting bands in the country, selling out four nights at the Northcote Social Club and three nights at Sydney’s GoodGod Small Club, plus they recorded the new single in New York with producer David Kahne (Paul McCartney, Regina Spektor, The Strokes).

Six-piece psychedelic dance rock band, Northeast Party House, began playing warehouse parties and local venues in early 2010, quickly gaining a following based on a reputation for delivering high energy live shows. A demo version of their track ‘Dusk’ gained blog attention and local airplay, eventually winning triple j’s ‘Unearthed’ competition to play at the 2010 Pyramid Rock festival. They’ve supported The Go! Team (UK), Kimbra and Gold Fields, and recorded their debut EP with engineer/producer Malcolm Besley.

Terror is energy, a force, a refuge and a voice for all the lost and unheard. This is an attempt to put to words that force expressing the band’s dreams, visions and hopes through the underground music medium of hardcore. This is the story of Terror – the now legendary team of vets tirelessly sharing their ambitions live on stage over 300 times a year since their start in 2003. The band has no boundaries when playing a show. Performing a festival to thousands one day and following it up with a show in a squat is not an uncommon occurrence for this group. Having shared the stage with Hatebreed, Strung Out, Behemoth, Lamb of God and Trapped Under Ice just to name a few, a decade’s worth of crafting their sound and presence has not worn down this outfit.

‘Call The Cops’, put simply, is a group of friends throwing two wild parties in Sydney and Melbourne the weekend before their bender continues at Splendour in the Grass where all three acts are playing. Yacht Club DJs, DZ Deathrays and Bleeding Knees Club will come together to cause a raucous at this show. Over the past few years the duo that is Australia’s premier mash-up act Yacht Club DJs have appeared at many festivals, with their third and most recent mixtape, ‘They Mostly Come At Night… Mostly’ catapulting them into their biggest sold-out national tour yet. Joining them are DZ Deathrays, who recently released their debut album ‘Bloodstreams’ and have enjoyed much critical acclaim around the world with music advocators such as NME, Rolling Stone and others naming them as a band to watch, and they were also selected to support the Foo Fighters in Australia. Wrapping up the three-way headliner will be the fresh faced surf-punk duo Bleeding Knees Club, who recently released their sun-soaked debut album ‘Nothing To Do’.

Ladies and gentlemen, hang on to your hats – it’s back, bigger and brighter than ever! Yep, that’s right folks, the annual Winter Ball fundraiser featuring Australia’s finest musicians and hosted by Charles Jenkins and The Zhivagos is back at the Corner this July. Each year the winter Ball elves magically transform the Corner Hotel into a winter wonderland, adorning the stage with sparkling snowflakes and blue velvet. Guests come from near and far in their finery to witness the glory and surprises that have made this event the stuff of legend. Now in its fourth year, this annual fixture on Melbourne’s entertainment and social calendar is a truly epic night of rock ‘n’ roll!

Minneapolis five-piece and NME favourites Howler are a band to watch this year. The brainchild of the band’s 19-year-old front man Jordan Gatesmith, who always had a natural affinity towards early ‘60s American rock and pop, as well as ‘80s punk, Howler’s debut release ‘America Give Up’, featuring the single ‘Back Of Your Neck’, was a triple j feature album earlier this year. They just pulled out some blazing shows at SXSW and they’re set to do the same at this Splendour sideshow.
Joining Howler will be London’s Zulu Winter. Twelve years after first playing together, Zulu Winter are finally getting the success they deserve, with sold out shows in the UK and Europe. On stage they insist on live instruments and live sounds and their performance at this show will be no different.

London based record label Communion have joined forces with Secret Sounds to bring you a sample of their finest signings, with Michael Kiwanuka, Ben Howard and Australia’s Tim Hart (Boy & Bear), teaming up for a couple of very special evenings this winter. This will be the first tour Communion (the brainchild of Mumford & Sons’ Ben Lovett) has curated in Australia. Few records make such an instant impression as ‘Home Again’, the debut album by Michael Kiwanuka. Immersing the listener in a sound that is both modern and at the same time classic, Kiwanuka’s musical touchstones of Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, result in a surprisingly current sound. Joining Kiwanuka will be Devon surfer Ben Howard, a young, masterful acoustic troubadour. Also gracing the stage for this tour to showcase some of his solo work will be Tim Hart of the five time ARIA winning band Boy & Bear. With three talented acts joining together, it’s a show not to be missed.

They just played to massive crowds at both SXSW and Coachella. They blew Splendour punters away in 2010 and they’re coming back to do that and more, including this sideshow, this year! The Southhampton trio return with an album of fresh material featuring hits like their latest single ‘Sweet Sour’, ‘Lies’ and ‘The Devil Takes Care Of His Own’. With catchy melodies and crunchy riffs, the feverish response to Band Of Skulls in the USA, Australia, across Europe and pretty much everywhere else, is little surprise.

Mudhoney have announced this single Australian headline show around their Splendour in the Grass appearance this July. The landmark Seattle band formed in 1988, made up of members of Green River and The Melvins, and became the staple act of iconic grunge label Sub Pop when they signed to the company in the late ‘80s. Their debut EP ‘Superfuzz Bigmuff’ and subsequent single ‘Touch Me I’m Sick’ saw them rise to international attention, and they were invited to tour alongside Sonic Youth in 1989. Going on to release ten albums since, the band has been established as one of the ost important acts to emerge from the famous Seattle grunge scene of the ‘90s, which has seen the band consistently tour the globe, including alongside Pearl Jam at their 20th anniversary tour. The band’s last show at the Corner in December sold out in less than two weeks so be quick!

Former Fleet Foxes member Josh Tillman is celebrating his reincarnation under the mischievous moniker, Father John Misty. His debut folk rock album, ‘Fear Fun’, has a darkness and mysteriousness. He just played to enthusiastic crowds at SXSW and now he’s sure to cast a spell over Splendour and at this sideshow.

After playing to sold out audiences in February and drawing huge crowds at SXSW, blogosphere sensation Youth Lagoon returns to our shores for Splendour. Twenty-two year old Trevor Powers, the brainchild behind Youth Lagoon, has had a long year. Not only has he been endlessly touring off the back of his stellar album, ‘The Year of Hibernation’ but, as his music reflects, he’s been busy living the life of a kid going to college, being in love, dealing with heartache, and just living.
