Cycle The Stunning Island of Sao Miguel Portugal

Fly in to Ponta Delgada from London and you’ll be provided with everything you’ll need for the trip: bed and breakfast, luggage transportation, bag, puncture repair kit and a 21-gear mountain bike!

Enjoy the sea views as you ride 31km along the north coast. You’ll pass through the villages of São Vicente, Ferreira and Aflitos, then return to Capelas to recover with your fellow travellers.

Cycle to the Sete Cidades lakes the following day, heading west with a total journey time of 53km. Stop at Vista do Rei for a wonderful view of the twin lakes, and see their contrasting blue and green colours.

Following the north coast you can challenge yourself with a 5km hill climb through picturesque villages to the town of Ribeira Grande. Explore the town square before continuing your ride to Furnas, where you’ll meet back up with your luggage ready for your hotel stay.

After a testing day you’ll be ready for the gentler ride to the hot springs. You’ll explore the fishing village of Cozido das Fumas and relax alongside the beach in Ribeira Quente.

The thirty acre Botanical Gardens in Fumas are also a wonderful place to chill out after three days of hard cycling should you want another day to chill out. But if you choose to push yourself a little more there’s an opportunity to see the beautiful, but hilly countryside on a 50km round trip from Fumas to Povoação.

Your last day before going home gives you a final 20km cycle to Quinta dos Curubas where you’ll stay the night before returning home the next day. For those wanting to keep active on their trip, whilst seeing the beautiful landscapes of an island like Sao Miguel, this is perfect. Prices start at £990 per person, based on two sharing.
